I would say your best bet is either a Neptune washer...either the MAH5500, 6500, 7500 series.....which use a good amount of water

or a Frigidaire FL with the ROUND door, some places like Sears Outlet still carry them, uses plenty of water and if you need to you can adjust it with a simple screwdriver....I have to check but I think Sears also have them online still...

shop around and check them out....never hurts

I wanted the model with the heater but they were backordered and would have taken 4 to 6 weeks to get it. I upgraded to the Imperial set. Other thank a few hiccups with the dryer, they have been a good set so far.

My final decision has been made-I am saving up to buy the brand new Speed Queen 2-speed top loader!

I really like the simplicity of the controls on Malcolm's SQ but it doesn't seem to use an adequate amount of water, which is my main complaint about my Affinity FL machine.

I still think full size Duets are best. They have the "Clean Washer" cycle which is fun to watch, and over all do a better job, at least compared to my Affinity.

If budget is a concern, consider the AWN432, it doesn't have the Fabric Selector switch which results in a few less cycles. If that's not a big deal to you. I like the fabric selector switch myself because I can just set the 'time' in the 'Regular' cycle and customize the speed of the agitator and spin via the Fabric selector switch. If you don't have these, those settings are controlled by the timer switch set to the various cycles such as Delicate and Perm Press. Just a thought if budget is a consideration. Personally, I wouldn't go any less than the 432 as you start losing the Hush Pak (important to quiet that commercial motor down) and extra rinse options...but that's just me.

Welcome to the Speed Queen club...we'll all be excited when your get your washer...it took me 6 months before I saved enough money to buy my set, have been thrilled since the day I got them and feel like a kid again watching my classic washer with the traditional agitator!

Water bill...

"We got our last bill from the last quarter and it zoomed to $255."

Hmmm...that's $85/month for water and sewer (usually a 50/50 split)...that's what I'm paying in Tennessee for the condo in the city ($80-$85). I also have a residence in the country where I never even reach the minimum amount provided under the standard service and pay $38/month for water only.

Mind you that there's 1 to 2 showers per day and 2-3 loads of laundry and 1-2 loads of dishes in the dishwasher per WEEK at the condo. Maybe I'm getting ripped from the water people. :|

oh yes they are....

Our water rates have been going up lately also. Our meter fee used to be $1.00/month and now its been raised to $18.00/month. That's $216.00 a YEAR for a meter fee...quite a jump from the old $12.00 year. Plus the actual water rate has risen to, I don't know how much more though. This was the whole reason we decided on a FL.

.....but I have no issue with 15 US gallons....which should be less than half a similar capacity top loader....

unbalanced load handling

Does anyone know what the current Speed Queen top-loader washers do when the load gets severely off-balance-do they have an off-balance switch?

My old SQ used to trip the unbalance switch and sit there until I re-distributed the load. My new SQ top loader, three years old, hasn't unbalanced yet. The old one very rarely unbalanced. In two decades of daily use I don't recall this happening with a greater frequency than once or twice a year.
