after viewing all of Marks stereos in the other thread I stopped into a store today and found this one. I'm getting sort of spooked because everytime I see something of someone elses that I really like, miracuoulosly <sp> one appears. Even better yet with finding that Danish modern sofa yesterday this thing is almost a perfect match. I haven't picked it up yet but it came with all the pamphlets etc and hanging tag. The top of the cabinet needs a little restoration but other than that it's fine..
Here's a pic from the brochure

Pete you know you are too much

You KNOW I am looking for something like this!

ALthough I must have the Voice of Music changer (family reasons, best not discuss).

You will love the sound of that and it looks great!

Still looking for a Motorola, Voice of Music, or Zenith. I am planning to hit estate sales this weekend.

At my local thrift store, they have a small Magnavox, and previously they had a HUGE Packard Bell, but neither were right for me. At least there are a few out there. They need to be saved.

I'm sitting here anxiously awaiting the other one to get home with the truck so's I can go pick it up...!!! Like a kid at Christmas. The brochure shows a few of their other models as well.. I love reading old brochures.
OH and the date on the brochure for this one is 08/63

What I am planning to do...

Is also hook a modern CD into the unit and listen to clean media but on that warm, wonderful amp and bass of those big speakers.

My parent's Curtis Mathes set rocks. If I can find something 1/2 as good I will be happy. Definately excited for you Pete. Where is it going to go, in the living room?

Well she's home and in place for now till I decide what I'm doing. Plugged it in and everythings AOK. Took a bottle of Scratch Magic and rubbed it in and what a difference in how it looked before and after.
Soundwise, it's just ok to my cultured ears and definitely not up to par with a good component system. That's why my dad would never have one he built his. Looks nice I thinkk, it's a bit dark in this picture. I'm glad I got all the paperwork for it.

Here they are

non too complicated, now that it's daylight I'll have to get in there and see what's what.. I noticed that when I have the FM playing there's a lot of static and cutout to the left speaker when I adjust the balance control. When it's playing a record it seems fine. I'd assume there's some wear or dirty contacts in the balance control dial
I used Trade Secret, not Scratch Magic quickly to bring the wood back to life.. that stuff is a miracle in a bottle.

Garrard turntables

I've got a Garrard model 50 that is practically identical to that AT 6. They are VERY nice turntables indeed. One of the things that will probably need servicing is the idiler tire which resides underneath the turntable platter. It's a rubber tire that goes between the motor shaft and the platter. Over time, the rubber gets hard and crusty, causing the turntable to run offspeed. I bought one for my model 50 at a local electronics shop about 10 years ago. They are still avaliable. MCM electronics will probably have them too. The first sign of idiler wheel trouble is that the turntable platter will stop when changer functions attempt to operate. Rumble and background noise will also increase as well.

While you're in there, lubricate the changer gears with lithium grease or other equivalent material. Also, lubricate the tripping mechanism. If this gets stiff, when the tone arm gets towards the end of the record, it may start skipping, as the tripping mechanism offers resistance to the tone arm as it travels across the record.

My turntable was my Father's, and he installed a Pickering cartridge in it. I further upgraded it to a Stanton that one of my friends got from the radio station he works at. These turntables don't like extremely light stylus pressures, so the DJ grade one, which is designed to run about 3-5 grams, does much better than some of the ultra-performance ones designed to operate on 1-2 grams.

Thanks for the tips Cybr. Glad you mentioned lithium grease because I probably wouldn't have thought of it. I have a tiny tube of it somewhere here. Isn't there a product you can get that sort of rejuvenates dried rubber belts and wheels? Next time I'm at an electronics store I'll take a look because I'm sure I'd seen it.. whether it works or not is something else.
