Hey Guys,

Some of you might have noticed I've been absent for quite some time, occasionally popping in to see what's going on. But there's been good reason- construction season!

That's right, things are underway at "the lodge". That's the mid-century garage with living quarters. Quite a lot to do after a busy day at work, but I can't complain about snow or freezing temps any longer : )

The first shot was taken a couple weeks ago, getting the 6 steel beams into position. Drilling the flanges was not a fun time due to the steel hardening during welding of the columns. That's me in the bobcat feathering over the masonry pier with Ben at the left.

Thankfully things are warming up, though the mosquitos will get heavy soon- Here's a shot from last weekend. Not shown is what we have now: 80% of the floor joists and sheathing on the back wall, and most of the framing for the row of glass blocks on each rear side wall. This weekend it will just be Cara and I finishing off the floor joists and last portion of rim joist, building the stairs and laying down the floor underlayment. We've got about 750 square feet up there so I'm not holding my breath ; )

Still lots of little stuff to do, like drilling the concrete blocks up front and blocking all the joists (ugh!).

Hi Cory, That sure looks like it is going to be some place, I bet that you are really excited. Any ideas on a completion date? Terry

WOOHOO!! Progress is ever building...thanks for posting pics as it's looking really great!! Will definitely resemble an FLR house when it's done in my opinion...is this going to be a 2-story garage or 1-story with separate living quarters off to the side?

Who all is working on the MCM project besides you & Ben? Will you have some of the work contracted out or are y'all going to tackle it yourselves? Would love to know more!

AWESOME GUYS!!

Whoa! This is going to be some MCM!! I love the roof lines already! Tell me this....is your laundry studio going to be in the garage area or in the basement of the main dwelling?

I can't believe the four of you are doing it yourselves! Please tell Ben not to stand under one of those beams! YIKES!

Keep us posted! Great job!

Venus :-)

That's a nice big garage there. Bet you can't wait for it to be finished. Probably a little late to make this suggestion now, but I saw that huge concrete slab and though it would be great for radiant floor heating...Just like Levitt and Eichler homes had during that time! Not to mention, it would be great while laying on your back on WARM concrete while working on a car!

I have a hard hat I will send ya

Big sticker on the back...

MEAN PEOPLE SUCK

(Seriously...I use to work out in the chemical plants)

Shell VIP's loved it.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the compliments. Yep, it's just me, the gf Cara, Ben and our friend Cam. Of course I'll have the well and septic contracted out but everything else we're doing ourselves.

Austin, it's a two story, but inside it's more like 1 1/2 with a balcony that overlooks the cars and a gangway that leads to the upper front where a deck overhangs the garage face.

Terry, ETA on this one is for late this summer with the house to be later on after I get things settled.

I had considered heating the floor but in the end time and expense won out : )

I will keep you guys updated!
Cory
