Getting a hire car is no problem, but PLEASE remember to drive on the LEFT.

Sorry to be a slight downer here but where we live is a prime tourist destination, and many tourists have unrealistic expectations of how far they can travel in a day, by the time they get here they are getting tired and losing concentration, tend to drift over to the right. 2 years ago two American women ate at the restaurant where I work, drove out of the car park onto the right side of the road, straight into an oncoming car. All passengers of both cars were seriously hurt. In November 06 my hubby and I were driving about 7.30 am to Melbourne, not 5 minutes from home we had to stop and give first aid to a head-on accident. A young Canadian guy had slept in his car on the side of the road, woken about 7 am and started driving, drifted over to the wrong side and hit one of my neighbours head on. Local neighbour is in his 60s, already had heart trouble. He suffered neck and chest injuries, in hospital for 3 weeks. The young guy had smashed up knuckles and was in shock. We were early on the scene, my partner controlled traffic whilst I stayed with the local guy who was unable to get out of his car, till first responders and ambulance arrived. Fortunately I had just done level 2 first aid.
When you are used to driving on the left, if you see a car coming at you your instinct is to swerve to the left. When you are used to driving on the right, you are naturally swerve to the right to avoid a collision. What hapens too often around here is a overseas tourist drifts to the wrong side, sees a car coming head on, panics and swerves to the RIGHT, the oncoming car is a local who swerves LEFT, so the cars swerve together and still collide.
Don't mean to be a killjoy, I'd love to see lots of overseas washer nuts over here, but I'd love to see them go home safely too...

Persil in Australia

Hi Irishwashguy,
Persil in Australia is called Omo and it is the Unilever version, it has exactly the same formula.
The Henkel Persil is generally very hard to get, although where I live the little family delicatessen used to get it and I used it many times, however they have since stopped importing it.
Funny thing is though,Persil in New Zealand is still called Persil but not here in Australia, I really do not know why they changed the name.
Cheers.
Steve.
