While picking up the tote and vinegar this afternoon for the GE project, I stopped at the junker pile behind Menards and saw this Whirlpool dishwasher. I don't usually see Whirlpool dishwashers from this era around here as KitchenAid and Maytag dominated the local market, so I thought I'd snap a few photos and post them.

If I had to guess I'd say early 80's.

Interior shot. It was in pretty good shape. Certainly was used but would make a great cheep dishwasher for someone who needs a portable.

I don't need it so I left it behind. It's nice enough that I'd be surprised if it is still there in a few days.

Enjoy!

It looks like its in nice shape.  The panels don't look rusted or dirty.

... and it's Harvest gold.

I always feel guilty when I see an appliance that I admire, but have to leave it behind.  I would feel bad about having to leave something so nice behind.

Last week, when I was at Menards (they sell the used models here.  Is what you are seeing for sale or in another type pile?)  They had, on a second shelf,

8' in the air,

on a pallet,

both a Harvest Gold MOL Kenmore dryer from 1978

and a 1982 Almond MOL Kenmore washer.

They wanted $29 for each.  I'd love the dryer which looks like its in better condition than the washer, but I feel bad about leaving them behind.

We need to create a museum, in one of the central states, where we all can consolidate our cherished babies.  I wonder if there is anyone amongst us who could organize such a feat.  hmmmm.

My parents had a very similar dishwasher when I was a kid I think they got it just before I was born (probably in 1976). It was an undercounter model, branded "Inglis Sterling" and had 5 push buttons (I think the letter "E" was "Crystal China"). It had an ajustable upper rack and it said "Scour Wash".

Here's the best picture I found of it (that was in 1980)...

We had that same exact model and color growing up, except it was a built-in. It is a powerhouse of a dishwasher and it really cleanup pots n pans. Ours lasted 14 years before it died, I think it was something in the timer that went bad and killed itself. I would have been hard to pass that machine up, keep for a backup. And it's clean too.
