Saw this ad and thought it was interesting. I don't know what this is exactly but it looks really cool.

Description reads: I have for sale a antique modern maid all in one.

I can tell a funny story about this appliance. The dishwasher original to the setup was a porcelain tank D&M. Alco had a call from someone who replaced the original dishwasher with a newer plastic tub dishwasher. After dinner they loaded it up and started it and flooded the kitchen because the heat from the cooktop melted the top of the plastic tank.

It did have probably the largest oven of any high oven range and it was a very tall range.

Were Modern Maids popular at the time? I only saw one once. The dishwasher only had a lower spray arm.

Modern-Maid Cook-N-Clean centers

These were never very popular but were used in a lot of small apartments and small homes and town houses.

 

The POS D&M DWs generally had two wash arms. but a variety of different D&M model DWs were used over the 20 years these centers were built.

 

We figured out ways to install other brand DWs in these centers because the DW always failed first.

 

I once had a service call on a new plastic tank WP DW that Sears had just installed under an electric MM CnC range. The Sears installer removed the fiberglass insulation blanket from the DW because the clearance was tight and when the customer boiled a big pot of water on the large RF 8" element the plastic tank of the DW melted down through the top rack of the DW and you could not even pull the top rack out of the machine to get her dishes out.

 

I went out and installed another new plastic tank WP DW and left the insulation in place and also used an aluminum DW panel on top of the insulation to dissipate and heat so it would not ruin another DW [ Sears picked up the destroyed  DW and gave the customer their money back ]

Here in Ontario pretty much the only place I ever saw these was in new build subdivisions. The developers must have bought them by the truckloads
