Cool!

There are some fascinating ads on the site (usedvictoria.com) including another Kenmore like the one Robert recently spotted. This one has a WP surgilator with a Kenmore cap.

Most cool indeed.

Congrats!! Love the looks of those!

How does the filter system work?

WOW

So glad you got then Eddy. They really look to be in wonderful shape. What sort of mechanical condition are they in? Used Victoria is a great site and is part of the Used Canada network. All major Canadian cities and many larger towns have a "Used" site, so everyone keep them in mind when you are washer hunting.

Again congratulations!

thank you everyone!

I appreciate all your comments, this set is one of the nicest I've come across. I'll try to answer some questions...
First, I think these are 1959 as that's what on the parts manual for this washer (A28) although could be 1960. This is the first Speed Queen washer I've seen that has a PUSH to start timer knob, every other model used a PULL to start timer. The conditioning center is basically 2 plastic containers each with perforated lids (will take more pics later of this). At the appropriate time there is a dispenser solenoid which pushes these over and "dumps" if you will the bleach and softener at the right time. The knobs are there to reset these to the upright position after the cycle. Of course there is water flowing during this increment to flush these into the tub. Very cool feature. The machines both seem to be in good mechanical condition, I just tried the washer and it agitates and spins just fine. Ironically, Greg N (gansky1) had sent me the parts and repair manual for this very model 8 years ago! Thank you again for that, who knew I would ever end up with them.

Wow! Now there's a washer/dryer!

Congratulations Eddy! Are these SQ's made in Canada or are they from the US? Just curious. When I was growing up I'm sure that one of our neighbors had these machines (or ones very similar) in their laundry room. We were good friends with these neighbors and I'm sure that's why my Mom got the 1964 SQ to replace our old Thor washer when it was beyond repair.

These machines look to be in excellent condition considering they are the same age as I am! Great find! I'm glad you saved these treasures!

Have fun with these!

Mike, these are US built Speed Queens. I don't think McGraw Edison had their Canadian factory open yet.
Louis: You're right, they've got to be 59's. In fact, the date stamped on the timer was Dec 8, 1959. ;-)

Oh Eddie - this are just stunning! Who would have thought that the set would only take 8 years to find you - congrats on this amazing find. When you have time - more photos of the dispensing containers would be cool. SQ's are certainly one of the coolest vintage washers out there.

See everyone

You should always buy the manuals even if you don't own the machines. The washer gods will smile down on you and deliver once you have the manuals!
"build it and they will come" "Field of Dreams" 1986

OR:

Once the manuals exist in your collection the Quantum Mechanical state of ownership has been defined thereby setting discovery of the machines to be the favored outcome from all possible outcomes.

And if you own the manuals

You will know all about the machine before you even get it!
Ben: Some pictures for you. First the dispenser without the caps on.

"Once the manuals exist in your collection the Quantum Mechanical state of ownership has been defined thereby setting discovery of the machines to be the favored outcome from all possible outcomes."

Is that true for men as well? Cuz if so, I'm going to build an altar... (yes, I took Anderson's altar apart - that was a crisis-driven infatuation and didn't last!)

Eddy, that machine looks like NEW -- look at the shine on that panel!!

Eddie - too cool. I now wonder what the knobs on the front do. Does the user turn the knob a certain way to signal to the machine that either type of conditioner is present and to dispense and flush the container? Just a beautiful machine - another reason to LOVE '59's.
