Corningware "Black Trefoil"

Another recent purchase is my "new" Black Trefoil Corningware, 2 1/2 quart casserole dish, with buffet stand.

It even came with the original unused candle!

When I received this, I was shocked to find it has NEVER been used. This is a very rare pattern that Corningware developed to attract a more upscale consumer who didn't like the standard cornflower pattern. It was sold between the years 1960-1965.

That is a very beautiful pattern, looks elegant, as it was meant to be, I have only seen this pattern a time or two on percolators, will need to find some for the corning collection

I've

got an Electromatic skillet with that pattern(the pan, neither baseplate style had any decorative motive, tho' the last one did come with gen-u-whine faux woodgrain above the control.)

I saw it last year on the entire flat bottomed set, dutch oven, skillet, etc. Unfortunately, it was at St. Vincent's de Axe-Murderess in Cheyenne, so they wanted antique prices for each piece.

It is quite a step up from the cornflower which I always associated with Church pot-luck dinners and fresh-from-the-can green beans drowned in goopy Campbell's Cream of Toadstool, sprinkled with the last crumbs of potato chips left over from the soggy picnic bag pulled from under the car seat and set to burn in a 500°F oven for 40 minutes.

Ah, memories...

Oh, yes...It sure does make a great Christmas present!
I am hoping to find other "Black Trefoil" items to complete the set.

Rich- If I get another percolator,the hubby is going to hit the roof! lol..=)
On second thought, oh well..he will just have to get used to it...
