Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Hi Justin. I remember Gibson for refrigerators but the only washers I ever saw was in the late 70's there were some
Westinghouse front load stackables with the Gibson label.

Well that solves part of a mystery I was wondering about...

Gibson and Easy were both owned by the Hupp Corporation (yes the maker of the Huppmobile car in the earlier part of the 2oth century) But I too have never seen a Gibson Spin Drier....I wonder if they made Gibson Automatics at that time as well and if so I would love to see what one looked like. Not sure how it's branded on the front, but...

I have a book from Easy from this time - owned by Hupp Corp, which was later sold to WCI. The 1967 line was still branded Easy but by this point, Easy automatic washers were made at the Hotpoint factory.

Hupp acquired Easy from the Murray Corp. around 65-66 and within a few years, it was all melded into the WCI fold. Gibson, Kelvinator, Easy, etc. washers and dryers became Franklin clones for a few years until the Easy name was dropped in the U.S. in the early 70's.
