I found this record this weekend at a local antique store. Don't get the correlation between fried chicken and the sounds of Herb Alpert but it was sure fun to listen to!

We Love the Colonel

I have this album in my collection, too. The connection is a bit obscure, but the record label (Mark 56) is a product of George Garabedian. He's responsible for a series of records that have some sort of product connection. The one pictured here is promoting Studio Girl. Have no idea what the products are, but some copy on the back reads: "When a Studio Girl enters your home a new kind of beauty brightens your life". Other parts of the copy indicate a Studio Girl would visit the prospective client, "...bringing the most exciting beauty ideas from Hollywood right to your home - at your convenience". Well, what more could one ask? It is odd that Harlan Sanders would attempt some sort of cross promotion in 1966, when Kentucky Fried Chicken was well established - and then with an album of cover versions of Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.

I'm thinking that Studio Girl was a brand of beauty products. By the way the table in the center of the picture so prominently displays an assortment of them, one could correctly assume this connection.

5:10

She must be a working girl, getting ready for her big date... how many people have a clock above the bathtub?

...or - it's 5:10am ....

...and she just left the cocktail lounge. Studio Girl reminds me of "Gillian Girl" from the Valley of the Dolls. A great commercial - should be on YouTube.
