Creda Washer and Dryer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Creda was an UK import to North America (think made by GE), and both the washer and dryer ran on 220v power. Units had a horrible track/repair record in the States, so much so that many dealers couldn't give them away. Still, one sees units popping up now and then either old dealer stock or from sales.

OH WOW!

thats so weird coz my neighbors in the UK had this exact same set. We also had a creda SuperSpeed 1200 for a few years before we moved into a house with integrated appliances. It was a wonderful machine.
I recommend getting them if u can, they were good machines in my experience.

They are...

UK Hotpoints in all but name....

Not bad machines- certinally better than the cr@p Merloni Hotpoint make now...

Obviously the washer should have a lid!.

Seamus

P.S assuming both are UK spec they will obviously be 220/240v- this means the washer will have a built in heater and will run on cold water only if required ;)

Chad!!!!

BAG EM!!!!

Pointless Info No.1

Samantha Fox aka Page 3 Model/Celebrity Lesbian???? (heard the rumours) had this machine. Dont ask how I know I just do.

Pointless Info 2.
Cheryl Baker from Bucks Fizz also had this machine.

Useful Info 1. Check out the video I made of my Old Hotpoint which is exaclty the same as this machine just a different colour and spin speed.

Useful Info 2...... NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER Use any P&G product in this machine. Its unlawful!!!!

You need some Non Biological UK Persil for your whites and lights.
UK Persil ColourCare for ya coloureds and that will be just dandy. ;-)

Comfort Softener if budget allows L(OL!!!!!! ....Blue Flavour.

Saintly clean laundry with the best machine ya can get.

You wont be dissapointed with the sounds they make. these sounds MADE the best washdays in the UK from 1978 - 2000.

Oh and it also will have the best washing machine drum design too a pure classic!

oh yeah baby just get em!!!!!

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL !

Linkie for my video

Not to be the lone wet blanket, I'd find out if parts are still around for both units, AND what happened to the top of the washing machine.

Seller stresses several times units are sold "as is" only and that they haven't been recently tested. Would be a shame to lug home units that do not work and or cannot be repaired easily for lack of parts.

Would also email seller to find out exactly what the electrical power requirements are for both washer and dryer. If both are 220V, can the dryer be plugged into the washing machine, or do you need two separate 220v lines?

I believe the washer top is gone because the units were stacked. When the guys stacked my Frigidaire pair, they had to remove the top of the washer to clamp the two units together.

I'm thinking crap or not, for the price, they'd be fun to play with, even for a little while!

Ok, the persons other items for sale make me go HMMM.. I thought you couldn't sell that on ebay? Asked questions, wating for an answer... I will get em if the top was taken off for staking (like i first thought)
Thanks

That is the best washing machine that was built by hotpoint themselves either before they were owned or were owned at the time by merloni, they spin quite fast for 1000 it's worth a try mate

Electrical requirements...

Are approx 4500-4750w maximum for the combined pair

I believe this is less than a US Electric dryer??

Seamus

I'm with Launderess, those machines sold in the USA had horrible track records. It's been quite a few years since those machines were sold on the American market, so getting parts for them might indeed be a problem. I don't think the lid of the washer needed to be removed in order to stack the dryer on it. Buyer beware I would say.

GDA rebadge

Hi exploder

As Seamus pointed these are GDA machines badged as Creda - from the early 90s I'd guess - GDA exported similar machines to Australia where they were sold using the GE badge. I guess they came to the US by the same route - GE had a 50% stake in GDA (the domestic appliance survivor of GEC - confused yet!?!).

In the UK and Ireland GDA sold their washers under various badges including Creda, English Electric, Gala and of course Hotpoint - they are all the same basic machine, being based on Hotpoint's 95 series front loader. They had a mixed to good reputation here, but it is worth noting that 5-8 years is an average to good life-span for a mid-price EU washer! So if you're expecting US-style long service don't hold your breath...

Parts for these machines are readily available in the UK, so in principle you should be able to mail-order them if not available in the US. I'm sure they'd be fun to have. The washing machine should have a top cover - the stacking kit did not require the cover to be removed IIRC

Check you voltage/wattage calculations very carefully - remember watts will be different at various voltages - also worth checking the hertz of your power supply - the UK is now 230V +/-10% @ 50hz - I think US 240v is at 60hz....

I am passing on them.. The missing top is the big reason.. The guy said is has an edison plug and uk set up... Um, ok... Has been stored for like 5or 7 years and so on... I would love to have them, but me thinks the washer may not be working and after speaking with creda via email, parts would be costly to get and i am just not sure i could work on it my self.. Plus the owner was a little to wishy washy... Also the adult movies put me off.. I don't think u r allowed to sell them on ebay

That is the same model Creda washer that I have. The only thing we ever have to do is put new brushes in the motor every 5 years. I buy them over the phone from a business in Texas where they are very nice. They distribute Creda parts for the whole USA and told me that the parts would be available here for at least 10 more years unless something earth-shattering happens.

I use powder Tide HE and STPP and have no trouble with excess sudsing.
