Last night I was pulsing some cookies for the bottom of a cheesecake when suddenly my Cuisinart foodprocessor quit working. When I push a button the light comes on, but further nothing niks nada. I tested it by removing the bowl and pressing the security button with scissors, but that didn't change anything. So I was wondering, do these have a built in safety switch or a fuse when they get overheated? (It would surprise me when it was overheated, it was a small batch of cookies and I didn't pulse very long but one never knows).

Does anyone know what could be the problem?

The motor did have an internal overload switch. I tripped it (or something) on my original one back in the late 70s and had to send it to the Cuisinart Clinic for repairs. The system is probably different now because mine don't have lights, but gremlins get in at the worst times.

Mine is very old,

from 1983 when they were still made in Japan. It still works. I had to send it back for a new motor sheath shortly after I got it. I made whole wheat bread following the directions, and it melted the sheath, but did not hurt the motor.
No charge for repair, or shipping. They suggested not storing the blade or dough blade on the motor shaft because if moisture is trapped in their it heats up from friction, and caused it to melt.

I've tripped the thermal protection system on my Cuisinart (purchased around 2009 if I recall correctly) while kneading several consecutive batches of bread dough.  However, the motor smelled very warm when it tripped and the system reset itself once things cooled off.

The only other failure I've had is when small plastic parts of the interlocking system between the lid/bowl and base broke.

Your electrical outlet hasn't failed, has it?

Try to get your old Cusinart fixed-was looking at the new Cusinart food processors-and they are pretty sorry-Built in China-have a CHEAP,small universal motor with a gearbox. The older machines had induction motors that were more sturdy and longer lasting.Maybe the switch on yours failed.

If you can't get the machine to operate you may want to give Cuisinart's Customer Care line a call about your machine and tell them what's going on with it. I would definitely check it out to see what's going on.

If you want to call them their number is 800-726-0190

don't forget to have your model# and serial # handy in case they ask you for it

Talked on the phone to someone from the import company. He had a few tricks, but none of them worked. He thought it was probably the start motor. Because this is a model NLA they don't stock parts for it. Parts can be ordered from the USA but it is expensive, so basically he told me it was not worth the trouble. I could get a partly refund when I purchase a new Cuisinart, but because I don't have a receipt, that's not an option. The repair cafe might be worth trying, but if they can't repair it, it's curtains for the Cuisinart. Next time I'll focus on Magimix, parts for those are wider available here. For the time being I have enough kitchen appliances to do the tasks I need to have done in the kitchen.
