My cousin and I were having a discussion about dishwashers today. She wants to replace her machine that is dieing. She wants a stainless front panel but doesn't want a stainless tub, we both feel it's a waste of money.

Are there any models like this out there? Or are you forced to get a stainless tub to get stainless on the front.

She is just looking for a decent mid-priced unit.

Tons.

Frigidaire, Maytag I have seen recently. I'm sure they all have this combo.

Let us know what you choose!

Whirlpool

Some friends and I recently redid an old apartment building and replaced the kitchens with stainless appliances entry level models. The dishwasher is a Whirlpool with a plastic interior. Amazingly we have had not a single failure with any of the appliances including laundry for any of the 15 units (90 pieces total).

I have the stainless front and tank with my Miele. I wouldnt go back to having a plastic tank since they stain so easily. The Cascade Plastic Boost works well to get rid of tomato stains from a plastic tank but with stainless steel I dont have a staining problem. The thing I would change is the front. Stainless steel is nice to look at but to keep it clean is another story. My stove has a stainless steel top and its a royal pain to keep clean. My dishwasher front isnt too bad but it shows up fingerprints. I have the stainless steel cleaner that I do use and it does help but not much.

Maytag/Amana

Have (or at least had in December) that combination in their program.
Having lived with stainless steel everything in the 1990s, I really strongly urge you to pay attention to the material used. Dishwashers are nearly as bad as range hoods when it comes to fingerprints and grunge - unavoidable considering their function.
Personally, I will never do stainless steel appliances again. Too much work - they either look perfect or filthy. And they sure make the kitchen dark, how I know not - but they do.
As for the interior - I've had stainless steel now for over 25 years (we don't do plastic interiors in Germany, who knows why). They are truly self cleaning and maintenance free - run a load of garlic-y or tomato based anything and you know what I mean.
At the lower priced end of the US market, Amana seems to offer the most bang for the buck - they sure do clean well and nobody ever uses more than quick, standard and heavy cycles anyway...

Thanks!

I summarized the info and sent it on to my cousin. there are a couple of units that she might be interested in. I'm over stainless appliance too, but some people still like the look. With a 4 year old I think she might be asking for extra work cleaning hand prints off stuff but that's her decision.

I've had plastic tubs for 30 years now, and have never had any staining. We use a fair amount of tomatoes and they have never stained. Personally I just like the white interior, now if there was a lighted stainless interior I might be temped....

All high-end SMEG dishwasher have a light inside the tub and they are only in stainless stell, also AEG-Electrolux has something similar :)

Personally I think money is better spent on a stainless tank than on a stainless facade. More durable than plastic, less staining. Then again, I think that euro design dw, with the hidden heating element, is better than the American design dw with the exposed heating element. Sort of depends on what you like, really. Both can clean well, I just prefer the euro design (which I gather always comes with a stainless interior).

I got my Bosch scratch/dent at Sears for $350. Well worth it, and I think a better machine than I could have gotten for the same money in an American brand.

There is an Asko with a light inside!

I saw it at Standart TV and appliance, and thought that it was neat, although, spendy. I reciently had a friend of mine that bought a Kenmore dishwasher, not the greatest one and loves it. It was the higher end Portable, with a plastic tub, and it is flawless for getting all of the crud off of everything. It is even quiet operationally, which really suprised me. I know my next dishwasher, i really want a built in Miele, those are my favorate. Has anyone ever used Pledge on stainless steel applainces? When I was at Bradlee Distributing, that is what she said her secret was to keeping everying fingerprint free.I don't really have any SS apliances as of yet. I will someday!
