I have a friend whose washer is nearing end of life.
They are interested in a Speed Queen front loader pair, but the cost of them over other front loaders have them questioning if it’s worth the extra cost.
I personally think it’s worth it, I have experience with the top loaders, and would like your input on if the it’s worth the investment

110% worth it.

I have had mine since 2016 and 0 problems. We generate quite a bit of laundry for the size of our household ( I do 6-7 FULL loads a week plus 2 or 3 smaller ones) and I have yet to be disappointed.

This is the ONLY true commercial grade, laundromat/institutional proven washer available for home use. I am 41 years old and do not expect to buy another washer or dryer.

I've had my SQ . . .

. . . front load for 3 or 4 years.  I bought it from John LeFever whenever he had the last big wash-in at his museum in Beltsville, MD.  It works like a charm.  Doesn't even vibrate during the fast spin.

 Go for it!!

30 to 50 years?

From a consumer standpoint of someone who cannot afford to pay a repair person to replace the spider assembly, bearings, etc. and probably could not do it themselves (the major parts), how long would a SQ fl last? Is there a particular residential model to look for?

Why are they easier to fix over, say, one of the better Maytag/Whirlpool or LG models (assuming you can get parts).

Why is the design so much better than the typical fl that will last 6 to 10 years? 30 to 50 years seems a stretch for all but the most dedicated and technically skilled folks to keep it going. I could see maybe 20 for the average consumer.

Most folks find the top loads easier to work on. Is the SQ fl an exception? If so, why?

The new ones have the sani-cycle, so that would be good enough for me. They are twice the price of a good fl.

Whether I go TL or FL will depend on what TLs are available at the time I need a new washer and what my experience is with the MT TL I have now.

Just curious.
