Customised hotpoint slimline dishwasher

I figured some of you guys would quite like this so here it is.

I have a Hotpoint SDW80 (ok i know its not a propper Hotpoint but it was cheap) and it never quite matched the kitchen as it was in a colour called Graphite, this did not matter while the old kitchen was in but it would look really out of place in a new kitchen so it needed modifying.

Below is the machine before I touched it - not the best looking machine ever but as I said, it was cheap and cleans everything

So the first step was to get the Front, Top and Plastic cover on the plinth off

As you can see it is looking quite bare now but still usable. The plinth and top are staying off but the metal front is being shipped off to be resprayed

Ok so in taking the panels off I discovered why it never matched up to its super silent claim on the front panel, the machine only has one cover of tar based sound deadening on the top, sides and back of the tub and none on the actual metal door.

As my other hobby is related to car audio I had a lot of vehicle sound-deadening spare so the top of the machine and the door got a coat when it came back

Here i have the bits for the top laying ontop of the running machine to warm them and the surface up.

The sound-deadening i know is good because it keeps over 148db of music in my current vehicle

So I got the front of the machine back from being resprayed, Sprayed in Ford Metallic black

Couple of coats with Auto-Glym HD wax and a few coats of alloy wheel sealer were put on the panel before it was put on the machine.

Also the all important sound-deadening was applied to the back

So the end result in the new kitchen can be seen below

With the top off the machine it has allowed it to sit on a plinth to raise the machine right to the work surface giving it the look of an integrated machine. Plus i can happily say that the machine now no longer has loud water noise outside, the only real noise is the pump and that will be sorted once i make a plinth cover for the base of the machine.

As you can see the car paint is a good match for the black that Gorenje use on the washing machine and the black the kitchen company use.

Thankfully the control panel just breaks up the run of black enough and is a match for the silver on the fridge-freezer across the room so that does not need spraying or modifying at all

Nice work!  It matches perfectly with the other black.  The alloy wheel sealer - is that like a clear acrylic or a urethane product?

 

Now for more pictures...  We'll need an inside picture (money shot) of the dishwasher - slimline machines are fairly rare over here and most are plastic Frigidaire abominations so one that cleans properly is very interesting

And then, a shot of the whole kitchen remodel - it looks like it's pretty cool.

Im not sure what the alloy wheel sealer is TBH, i think its just a very tough wax, probably was not needed but i had some spare so why not.

The dishwasher is just a common or garden dishwasher over here - Stainless steel interior, hidden element and seems to take everything i throw at it

I have attached a pick of the inside to this post, like i said its nothing really special I just picked it up cheap as it had a dint on the side

The kitchen is STILL being completed, all cabinets etc are in but i need to finish the painting and plastering

BTW if i spun the camera around you would have seen my kitchen media centre - that is something im very proud of - 32inch screen hooked up to a micro-hifi system that streams music/movies off my server/internet by either remote control or control by Andriod tablet from anywhere in the house/garden (i have a few of these media centres in the house)

I think it would look more finished off with the plinth put back on & the control panel & plinth sprayed black but with the option buttons left silver.

The original plinth wont go back on the front of the machine and the photos dont show it but it is badly scraped and damaged so im currently planing out how to make a new plinth.

I did toy with the idea of spraying the panel but i thought it would look too dark. What i intend to do is keep an eye on ebay for a spare fascia that i can spray/experiment with meaning i can keep the fascia on the machine incase i dont like the look of a coloured fascia

Plinth

It would look far better with the original dishwasher plinth put back on & sprayed black or did you break it trying to put it back on. I just don't understand why it's sitting on an off cut of worktop, have u not got any spare plinth left from when u had your kitchen fitted, it just doesn't look right or maybe it's just me trying to be a pefectionist.

Why did you not just go for the Black version anyway?? I am sure they made Hotpoints in Black?

Optima - the dishwasher was a floor model so the original plunth was damaged before i even got the machine and on close inspection it was undortunatly not suitible for a respray. I have leftover material from the kitchen fit and will be making a new plinth for it

Glenfield - simply because it was in a sale a couple of yeara ago as a display model for only £120 with full warranty, compared to the full price i would have been stupid not to get it
