I've Never Tried....
....Tim's method, but I'm in complete agreement that keeping your lint filter really clean is the best way of keeping overall drying time and costs as low as possible. Cleaning the exhaust duct twice a year is also important.
My own laundry routine includes cleaning both machines' filters as soon as I'm through with each load - that way, both washer and dryer are totally ready to go again.
I've never understood people who won't keep up with the lint filter on a dryer. It took a long time to break my late partner of his habit of pulling it out, looking at it, and deciding it could "go a while longer." I finally got through to him by telling him that a filter that was 25% clogged was costing him something like 25% more in increased drying time.
P.S.: As hard-headed as he was, my partner tested my statement before buying into it, finding that I was right. Pissed him off fierce, let me tell you.
