Dallas or Fort Worth Members

Good morning guys...

The company i work for has two branches and they allowed me to choose where i want to be.

The options are:

Dallas - The steakhouse is smaller, rent is a little higher (same price but only 1 bdrm) and it's half mile away from work. The area is a little boring to me because there are only a freeway, an intersection, several gated comunities one next to the other and a shopping area with supermarket, Starbucks, banks and the steakhouse.

Fort Worth - The rent is cheaper (same price but it's a 2bdr/2btr apartment with a huge jacuzzi in the master btr), the apartment is right in front of the steakhouse (i literally just need to cross the street to go to work) and the area is super nice (it looks like a fancy commercial area), LA fitness just next (wall against wall), to the steakhouse with lots of green and a park 1 or 2 blocks away. the problem is that the closest supermarket isn't that close, but that's ok for me.

Anyway. I'd like to know where to move, because i also want to stay close to AWO members, because i have two days off per week and it's really boring because i don't have a car and I don't now anything and anyone here. It's horrible when you don't have a friend to talk with or eventually get together for any activities (like washing machine hunting, go to stores, etc or even to invite to have a cup of coffee or tea and spend some hours just relaxing and talking about nice things. LOL)

So, i don't care if it's in Dallas or in Fort Worth,even Fort Worth being better. but, what will make me decide is the distance from any AWO member.

So guys, who's in the area?

I'm not in the area and don't know what public transit is like in either town, but Fort Worth sounds like the better option.

 

Some supermarket chains offer on-line shopping and will deliver your groceries.

Cheaper, bigger, walk to work, better neighborhood, built-in jacuzzi? What's the question??

DFW likes to think of itself as LA/San Fernando. Autonomous transportation is pritmuch a given. There's even a line about it in I Love Lucy from 1955.

At which time I was 9yo and taking the bus to movies. Next door was an appliance store and I rummaged through their dumpster. Where I collected/repaired timers and connected them to things in blatant disregard for electrical and fire codes.

Anyhow, not that I'm any big whoop-- I was only a medium whoop 10 years ago and lost a lot of rating since then-- but I'm within practical distance of downtown Fort Worth.

Hey, Finally someone in the area... YAY

Arbilab, yes, i have to admit the area is much better in FTW. Well, as I don't have a car I still didn't go to the downtown so I have no idea if it's as nice as in FTW.

What I could see in ftw (i spent only two hours there in the steakhouse and at certain point I went out to smoke a cigarette and I walked around the block) is that every tiny detail in that area was planned to please. From the arch above the street to the blue LED lights on the sidewalk... wow, everything looks so elegant and fancy. I could even think of myself sitting on that beautiful park to read a book.

I can´t wait to see that lovely street (Crockett St) white of snow. A romantic european landscape with touches of modern architecture.

Ok, a beautiful dream, now let's talk about real life... What can you tell me about the area? Is that a safe area? How much crime is there?
Here where i am, in dallas, is good, it's a safe area (at least I feel safe when i leave the steakhouse late night and i walk back to the hotel) but it's too boring because i only see an intersection and walls, walls and more walls, a gas station, a supermarket and that's all and i have to walk three blocks. it will be a nightmare when it rains or when it snows.

And in FTW, well, i've found a huge apartment at West 7th studios. it's just across from where I work (Rafain Brazilian Steakhouse). commuting would talke what... 10 seconds walking? that would be awesome. Literally i just need to cross the street and I'm at work.

People are telling me i ought to buy a car because it's impossible to live in the US without a car. I don't think so. What do you think? Is it worth to have a car if i'm not going to use it everyday? Maybe I'd use a car once every two weeks to go to walmart, target, etc, but i can use a taxi for that.

Uber and Lyft are convenient ride services, or you can rent a Zip Car near you on an hourly basis if they have them in FTW.

You may get by without a car if you don't much need to venture outside the local neighborhood.  Large metro areas such as DFW have reasonable public transportation choices.  Small town don't. My house is 1.5 to 4 miles distance from "town" depending what's the destination.  There's a jitney-bus route in town but I'd have to walk some distance to a stop.  Was a taxi some years ago but IIRC the owner/driver died and I'm not aware that anyone picked up the business.  There's no Sears, JCPenney, Dillards, Macy's, Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.  Nearest shopping malls are one hour-ish.  How would I get there without a car?  Bicycle?  Greyhound bus?  Hitchhike?

Dallas VS Fort Worth

I moved to Winston-Salem, NC 8 years ago from Fort Worth. I have lived in Dallas and Ft. Worth and would definitely choose Ft. Worth over Dallas. In my opinion Ft. Worth is probably much safer and probably more friendly than Dallas. As far as needing a car you will just have to see how your situation works - I wish I could say that there were more AW members there but I only know of one. Close to work is a big +++. I have a 30yo car with only 90k on it because I was always close to work. Commute time is such a waste, besides the aggravation.

I've spent maybe 3 hours in Dallas since 1972 so I have no idea which neighborhoods are what. Ask the other folks who work there. I do know that Dallas cops kill an average of a dozen people a year while Fort Worth cops kill an average of one person every OTHER year.

What? (and I know the difference between "what" and "pardon")

In my city in Brazil cops kill 12 PER WEEK (not literally)
Criminals kill 12 per minute (again not literally)

I'm begging my manager to transfer me to FTW. Next step will be playing a drama queen, kiss his foot, start crying and saying please daddy, i want a pony, I want a Play doo set, i want crayons, i want a golden fish err i want to be transfered to FTW.

Hmmmmm... Texas without a steakhouse nearby? Choose Dallas! (Even if eatin' there ain't Texas sized...)

 

Oh, wait--just saw steakhouse in the Ft. Worth option...  So move there--and stock up on your groceries...!

Oh no, please...
I work in a steakhouse... and the company found a great way to keep their employees away from the expensive beef cuts.

We MUST eat every day, several courses during the shift, only to "try".

I used to call myself a carnivore up to three weeks ago... Now I can't stand eating brazilian barbecue twice a day every day. Now they offer and I say "no, thanks, i'm almost becoming a vegan"

(my husband will be very happy with this statement) Somebody please feed me a huge bowl of salad. No beef anymore, please!

I just hope i never work in a chocolate factory...
