Madonna.....

*Edina Monsoons voice* Haven't we had sex with her?
*Patsy Stones voice* OH, Yeah, Eds!

I am not one of those

boys who go all melty for Madonna.

I did like her, once. Last time I liked her was around the "Live To Tell" video.

I do admire her as a dancer/choreographer, and as a brutally astute businesswoman.

i used to LOVE madonna when i was in highschool. i gained a lot of strength from her. reading about her and her career, i learned that being gay was okay, and even possibly something special. she gave me the strength to come out at the age of 14. now that im older and jaded i know she is a disfunctional but intelligent manipulator who likes to be the center of attention. i still admire her iron will and remarkable descipline. as for her work, very much a mixed bag. her debut, "madonna", is her (IMO) best album. i also like to dance (like at clubs/discos) so she inspired me there too. Yes, I was living on my own in 1981 when I was 19.
Put myself through college, full-time.
Had a full-time live-in relationship (lasted 5 years).
and was employed full-time as a ladies' shoe salesman in the *MAIN* Macy's on 34th Street in Manhattan.

Back then I wan't afraid of (and had the energy for) a little work........

so do you really get the impression Madonna started off by copying Lauper? do you care to elaborate? i was born in 77 so my memories are foggy. and Toggle, i guess my point was, did you ever see her before she became famous, maybe at a club? you were prolly too young. David

That was a fun video to see, I don't know that I've ever seen it, and I was glued to all those music video shows and stations back in the day (anyone remember "Friday Night Videos"?)

I of course am very familiar with this song, but I didn't for whatever reason remember or realize that it was such an early piece of hers. This would put it before even "Holiday", wouldn't it? That's probably the first big thing I remember relating her to. I do remember when she looked like that though.

The video at the top of the thread was from 1982. the song is *everybody*, her FIRST warner bros. release. she did not have an album contract yet, only a contract for three disco singles. holiday was one or two singles later.
