We are shopping around for a used 2nd washer.

Prefer one of the Whirlpool/Kenmore-type direct drives that existed before the high efficiency madness.

We know we'll be able to find one, but was wondering if any came with stainless steel baskets?

Thanks.

Lots Of Good Information.......

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.  Also, that was a very interesting read on the SS basket replacement.

We gave away our last Whirlpool D.D. to a needy relative.  As it turns out, the rusty basket has the spiral holes.  The written warranty offers the limited lifetime replacement.

Wonder how successful they would be in getting a free replacement tub?

Thanks...........

It's a WP. Will be approaching the original dealer, this week.

Not sure how cooperative they will be, since I'm a civilian (not a certified repairman.)

Spiral Hole Pattern

Yes, believe that is one of them.

Wonder if there's a number we're supposed to call for the warranty. Bought mine before the Speed Queen (same dealer.)

It was like pulling teeth, but Whirlpool issued an order # for the inner tub warranty replacement.

There will be no warranty on the replacement, because I didn't order their service.   This was expected.

What wasn't expected was when they requested a "Repair Clinic" part number for the item.  That's right.  You will have to have a Repair Clinic item number, before they will agree to send the part.

Hope this helps someone.  Thanks for everyone's input!

Free Replacement Wash Basket

The replacement wash basket will be covered by the orignal washers tubs life-time warranty, The warranty statement that came with the washer did not say anything about your only being allowed one replacement.

The Only way WP can get out of this warranty is by giving you a new washer and taking the old machine away and scrapping it.

Thanks, John.........

I'm sure you're right; but, right now, I feel fortunate that a nearly $200 part will be heading this way based on my word, alone.

In the meantime, I'll be digging for my seldom-used spanner wrench.

Thanks, again, for the tip!

Warranty Part Arrives.........

Well, that was quick.  New tub & balancing ring assembly arrived, today.  Machine is still in the family, so will be installing it, soon.

As for us, will be on the lookout for a DD with a stainless steel basket.  Sounds like there may be a few out there, somewhere.

Who knows?  We may decide to allow the Speed Queen to play second fiddle to a new F&P WashSmart.  That idea is starting to grow on us.  We're in no hurry.
