DE606 Maytag Dryer Problem

I have a friend that has a DE606 Center Dial Maytag dryer that has just quit running.
The motor won't come on on the automatic or timed cycles. He was in the middle of drying a load on timed dry and it just quit running. He checked the breaker and it's not tripped - Any suggestions as to what is causing this problem ??? Thanks !!!!!

It's hard to say, quite honestly. Most likely there is a wire that has come loose or burned through. This is one of those problems where you have to pull the back off and start checking. If nothing is obviously loose or burned through, the first thing I would then do is to check the motor itself. If it is working properly using a test cord then you have to start the process of checking all of the circuitry either dead using a continuty tester or live using a volt meter or light bulb.

Also, for a point of reference, the DE606 does not have timed cycles. That bit of information that you provided is odd. The only electric center-dial dryers that offered both timed and automatic cycles were the Halo of Heat DE307 & DE407 and the Stream of Heat DE309, DE408 & DE409.

check the door switch, too. After that, I always go directly to the motor. Dryer motors are notorious for linting up and dying an early death, much more than washer motors. They have both thermal overload cutoffs and centrifugal switches, quite an assembly compared to washer motors.

Does the drum turn by hand, or is the motor totally siezed? Does the motor run when the belt is off? Does the motor get any power? After that, other guys here are Maytag experts, better advice than mine.
