Hi all I mentioned earlier that Greg had sent me some detergents to try. Today I tried two of them. First was the Dixan Mega Pearls. I really like it. Used 1/4 cup for a full load of whites. We have soft water and with my White Westinghouse spacemate front loader most detergents cause a suds problem. The Dixan did not. Just a nice thin layer of suds and the second rinse water was very clear. My "tighty-whities" just sparkle.LOL Next to try was Fairy tablets. I used the little net bag that Greg also sent me to put the tablet in. Anyone know about these neat little bags? It has a blue sponge type triangle in the bottom conner. Just wonder what its purpose is. Well back to the test, I thought it best to start out with half a tablet and I am sure glad I did, had a ton of suds and had to end up adding a bit of Downey to kill them. Second load I used just a quarter of a tablet and had much better luck. These were used on an average sized load of colored things. It did a good job of cleaning and I must say that I like the fragrance. Anyone else ever tried the Dixan Mega Pearls? Terry

The small blue sponge is designed to prevent the net bag from slipping down between the drum and the outer tub of Front Loaders.

The tablet bags actually only need to be used with Unilever products as they are slower at dissolving - all the P&G tablets (Ariel, Fairy, Daz, Bold etc - in general the square ones) can be used straight out the pack without needing a net as they are very very quick at dissolving (so much so that you can plonk them straight into the dispenser of frontloaders - they literally fizz at the contact with any liquid), unlike the Unilever tablets (Persil and Surf). However I've had no problem before with placing Persil tablets directly in the drum, the net is supposed to help the tablets mix around the load better but IMO that is a bit of marketing hype

Fairy even in my hard water over here can be very very high sudsing no matter how many tabs you use - this is because Fairy tabs contain more softeners as Fairy is designed to be a 2-in-1 product needing no softener, although recently they haven't advertised the fact much, and I have always used softener no matter what detergent I use anyway

I don't remember reading about softener on the Fairy box, although I didn't read every word, sneaky aren't they? They are a little more sudsy than the others, they did a great job on the towels though and the softeners must be fairly light.

No, the Fairy box doesn't mention it per se... but it is covered by the phrase on front of the box "huggably softer for sensitive skin". The MSD (sp?) sheet for Fairy also states that it includes a built in softener. I have attached a link to where you can download the MSD. You can also download the sheets for Ariel, Bold and other P&G products on the same site.

Very cool Jon - thanks for the info. There is a lot of info on those sheets and most people don't know they exist or bother to read them. I have them for a lot of my cleaning stuff for work, sometimes it's scary when you think about the chemicals we use and absorb into our bodies every day - swear off oven cleaner and Twinkies forever!

Dixan is only sold in a few European countries, it's practically the same detergent as Persil by Henkel, the detergent that is distributed in the US by Miele and perhaps by some retailers. I have never seen Dixan for sale online.
