Dettol Laundry Sanitiser

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I could use the Halo sports detergent too at is says it can be used o regular laundry.

Thanks for all the links Logixx. I don't think its worth buying because the Dettol is basically bleach with an added disinfectant. Not worth the money really.

I once had a problem with smelly arm pit areas on sweaters that I always washed at 40C with powdered detergent and tubmle-dried on high, but the smell somewhat remainded. What I once did was to pour a little bit of pure Dettol floor cleaner straight onto the fabric - just a couple of drops so that the material would get soaked - and put the items aside while the first load was being washed. Worked like a charm and didn't stain anything as the stuff doesn't contain bleach. Cheap, too, because the cleanser comes in a 2 liter bottle.

However, since you're washing at 60C anyway, sanitizing shouldn't be a problem regardless of detergent - unless, of course, you have one of those pesky modern washers that won't reach 60C.

Not at all true, Dettol has never, in any of it forms, contained bleach. Mixing a "disinfectant" or biocide with bleach is never a good idea as potentially chlorine gas could be released.

As I have said many times, washes at 40 deg or above with a quality detergent coupled with the mechanical action of the machine has been proved to be more than sufficient to reduce the bacterial count on laundry.

I agree with Hoover1100, our over reliance of anti-bacterial products is not a great idea, bacteria are clever and develop resistance.

Powdered Detergents

Esp, across the Pond, like Ariel or Persil, are loaded with Oxygen (Color Safe) Bleaching Systems. These Bleaches, are quite germicidal, even in Warm Water.

The Dryers high heat, I'd imagine, helps a peg or two. ;)
