Digital Chimes on New Machines

Anyone else deeply annoyed by the digital music chimes on newer machines with LCD displays? In our house, we just want an analog machine that does the job. These new digital chimes with every turn of the dial or press of a button are super annoying to us. Some- I'm looking at you Maytag Bravos- can't even be disabled without modifying the machine.

Now that you mention it......

My new LG dishwasher, washer and dryer all have the chime sounds on them. In fact, at the end of every cycle they play a song titled "The Lincolnshire Poacher.
Personally, I don't get it.

I just copied this from a site I googled:

Does the chimes instill the feeling of Quality or Reliability? Do they make me feel good??
No.

My new LG washer & dryer, when the signal is turned off, not only doese it no longer chime at the end of the cycle, it no longer makes any sound when dial is moved or buttons are pushed.

A mute button isn't just for TV's and commercials...

I have a newer LG front loader set, and the ability to turn off chimes has made them much more enjoyable to use. I personally don't like buzzers or any type of noise from my laundry machines for end of cycle, or cycle selection. My old Kenmore dryers were better in that respect- One of them had an infinitely variable buzzer tone, and the other one had a terrible beeper that could be turned down, or off. Ditto for the Maytag washing machine that came with my house.

I give LG some credit for not making the dryer sing every time it tumbles clothes after the cycle is finished. Both Kenmore dryers would either buzz or beep every time they tumbled the clothes and stopped, on the wrinkle prevent option.

I have the ThinQ app on my phone, and I have a smart LG TV- so, the washing machine sends a notification to my phone, and the TV. Much easier than hearing it chime from the other room.

I think it is a cultural thing

I really believe it is a cultural thing. In Japan I saw a frying pan with uplifting words embossed on it. Why?
Dishwashing sponges that will brighten my day? Really?
While walking the streets of Japan a colleague mentioned, “Why must every sign be a cartoon ??!! “
Similarly, why must appliances burp out cutesy songs?
It appears that in Asian countries, “ faux joy” designed into everything is their thing. Personally I find it extremely annoying.
The mute button is an important design element. Should I end up with some device that sings baby songs to me while cycling, I wish to have the option to mute it. Perhaps they can design it so I can reprogram the song to something more of my liking, like a note or two.
