found this on craigslist for 50 from a guy who is rehabbing the house. the house was built in 54 so this must have been orig to the home. its very dirty but come spring she will be a happy child once again

the machine is white now and you can tell it has been repainted with a roller so my question is what would be a great 54 color to do this machine up in? im kinda tired of white and pink

Sometimes people will take standard latex house paint....... Which is water-based and relatively easy to peel off.
If that is the case, the paint on there is basically a cover, preserving what ever is under there. You maybe able to take a hair dryer or heat gun, and carefully soften the latex and peel it off to discover...... a beautiful Torquise, pink, yellow, or dark blue base color.

the frame of rest of the body is white and the edges and back side of the front panel from what I can see is white then you can see roller marks where the painted the front with white ( am getting tired of white ) so when I get there and it gets a tad warmer im gonna refinish the front into either a color a blue tone would be fun or down to bare metal and seal that for a stainless look that could be fun. I did get the racks out and cleaned them and whats nice is I don't see any rust in the drain well so that's off to a good start

I noticed in the pics that the inner frame is white. It makes one wonder why they would paint the front a white if it was all white to begin with.
It could be the parts that wouldn't be viewable were all painted the same color, to make it easy at the factory.
It could possibly be the "drawer" is not original to the frame. Maybe at some point the original dw had a problem, maybe a relative with the same model was replacing it, so they happen to have a working dw in another color, and switched out the drawer. Or visa-versa.
So the front could still be another color. Maybe removing a piece of chrome trim on front will reveal the original paint surface.

yea you cant see it in the pic but there are roller marks all I can think of is they painted the whole kitchen white again because of age and dirt and yellowing ect but will know for sure when I can get it apart

Nice find, Chris! These are fun dishwashers and bonus they are pretty easy to work on. I know a lot of folks don't care much for impeller-wash dishwashers, but I just love my '56 model in the GE Kitchen Center.
If you can, please post a photo of the model number tag.

2 questions where the the mod tag? and how does this thing start do you start it by latching the lid then it runs its cycle or do you latch the lid then some how turn the timer wheel? there are no markings that say wash rinse dry ect im guessing when you latch the lid it just does its thing

Chris, the model tag should be on the tub part of the dishwasher. Pull the tub out and have a look on the left side - - the tag should be at the bottom part of the tub frame.
To run it, you do have to latch the door and also turn the timer dial to the left of the 'start' setting.
It does something unusual when it starts - the impeller and heater kick in right away. The idea, I guess, was that the incoming wash water would be warmed up by the hot calrod.
But I'll let you do the playing and discovering...
