I have a Magic Chef 1.6 cu. ft. washer that is about 4 years old now? I can bypass the lid lock by using one of those phone vent clip magnets and placing it above the Magic Chef logo. When I stand in front of the washer, that spot the magnet works is on the lower left-hand side on top of washer. It has to be a strong magnet. That spot just overlaps where the lid opens. You can find this spot by moving the magnet around and trying to start the washer. It will either give you the error code or start filling with water. It's temporary and no permanent modifications were made. The magnet stays on even when the washer spins. It's easy to put on and take off. However, the best use of this method is probably to diagnose an improperly working washer or to see how washer works.
You can add about two gallons of water with a bucket if you want the tub to be about 3/4 full. Or just add with a sink sprayer (if you have it hooked up at the kitchen sink). I wouldn't do more than that. It seems like the good wash action is achieved because the wash plate can move around a half tub or maybe even the 3/4 full around enough for small items. The wash action seems weaker if you fill it with more water than that.
I have found this washer useful for items that need to be washed separately, delicates, and or smaller loads the couldn't wait until we had a full load. I think I paid around $200 or so for it. With Covid, the price really went up.
I don't recommend disabling the lid lock feature if you have curious pets, small kids, or disabled adults in the household.
Information changes all the time, so I ended up taking the videos down as I no longer have time to keep them updated. However, I hope this info helps.
