There is an old WCI Frigidaire in the corner of the laundry room. It was previously the official washer here, but the property owners upgraded it to a WP BOL made about 10 years ago. But they never got around to removing the Frigidaire.

Overall, I think I'm happier with the WP--"Shredmore" or not. It probably works better (not a huge accomplishment). Plus the Frigidaire was getting cranky with age. But I was glad the Frigidaire never vanished for one reason: it, unlike the WP, has a delicate cycle. (The WP is one speed only. The "Delicate" cycle is basically beat the clothes with a vengeance for a period, pause and let the clothes try to recover, and then repeat.)

I've been thinking of using that Frigidaire. I decided this afternoon I'd clean it up a bit so it would be ready when I got ready to do a load. During this process, I opened the lid. The first thing that caught my eye was what looked like a dead mouse on the bottom of the tub. Oh, that can't be! I thought. That must just be something else. Maybe a huge glob of icky lint from the last load! Except, upon closer study, it did unfortunately turn out to be a dead mouse.

Yuck.

I'm now wondering how the mouse could have gotten in. I am speculating somehow made it to the outside top of the washer, and somehow slipped in. Perhaps through the opening that provides the "handle" for opening the lid. But I'm wondering if it's possible that the mouse somehow crawled up inside the machine...

In any case, my enthusiasm for using this Frigidaire has vanished...

you'd be amazed at what one of those little furry suckers can get thru. More than likely it crawled up something/s inside the machine to reach the top of the tub, unfortunately slipped and met it's demise by not being able to escape from it's big round smooth casket. They can just about flatten their bodies out to get into things and to our utter amazement leave us baffled in the process.

Wonder how long it had been dead? Couldn't have been too long or it would have reeked to high heaven.

Don't get me wrong; I do not want them in my house or garage causing damage and spreading pestilence...but I've always thought they had adorable little faces.

Ugh... I hate mice!   The positive note to this story is that the furry fiend expired before it did any damage or built a nest. The worst experience I have had with mice was the damage done to the wiring of my GE washer-dryer combo - they chewed it all as well as the dry thermostat probe.   And trust me, if they nest in a machine, it's extremely nasty...

No idea how long ago the dearly departed made its departure... The mouse didn't look fresh, but who knows? As far as reek, the laundry area has lots of air circulation. It's little more than a covered porch, and even when everything is closed, it's not a sealed environment.

And yes, mice can have cute faces...but they are cutest, I find, when they are on a mouse that lives in a cage, has a name, and a history involving a pet shop/mouse breeder. (Mouse breeder...possibly the easiest job in the world?!?)

Was the mouse mummified or still soft and squishy? That would give an idea how long it had been in there.
