When I acquired the 1956 Frigidaire DWUW (Undercounter model) from Ben (swestoyz) this past October 2009, he loaned to me two of his Frigidaire Service Tech-Talk books. I scanned the complete Dishwasher content from both books. One, from March 1956, featured the 1956 line of Frigidaire Automatic Dishwashers, which consisted of three basic models:
DWUW - Undercounter Model
DWFW - Freestanding Model
DWSW - Sink Combination Model
The other book, from December 1954, featured the V line of Frigidaire Automatic Dishwashers. The opening Introduction paragraph reads, in part, as follows: The V line of automatic dishwashers consists of the following four models:
DWV-8U - Undercounter Model
DWV-8F - Freestanding Model
DWV-8P - Portable Model
DWV-8S - Sink Combination Model
The DW denotes the product as a dishwasher, and the V for year of design (1955). The number 8 represents the capacity (place settings of dishes for 8 persons).
I believe that this (in late 1954) was their introduction of their dishwasher line of products. Also, if V stood for the 1955 Design year, then I am presuming that W stood for the 1956 Design year.
Attached is a page from that book showing the construction details for the first models.
