Dishwasher Collection Update 2

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

that is all so interesting!

it's a quick lesson in frigidaire dishwasher history which i knew little about. i didn't realize the spin tubes were frigidaire's ist line of dishwashers.

when i visited larry in parma last year he did have a motor and pump for a spind tube in his shop at that time. he may have parts for them still if you guys need any.

i would love to see a spin tube dishwasher in action with plexiglass for a dor to observe the action.

mike, you're great with videos, maybe this will be your next project?

If I remember correctly...

...Robert has a video of his with a plexiglass demo panel. I remember seeing it but can't think for the life of me where it's at.

Oh, gracious, ever-giving webmaster...

Pete:

Sorry, but as of March 9th, I purchased from Larry at Modern Parts, the used Frigidaire dishwasher pump and motor, dirt and all. He even included a new pump bearing. I believe it is different than the one currently on my model DWUW dishwasher, but I am not convinced that the one that came loose with my machine when I picked it up from Ben, is the correct pump/motor assembly. Why do I think that? Now that I compare depth of mine and the used one from Larry, the one from Larry is about 1/2 inch shorter, now that I have measured it. But before that, as soon as I attached the one that came with the machine, the whole cabinet then rested on the bottom of the motor. I had to install additional leveling bolts to the underneath of the frame to get the machine off of the motor. If you look in the above photos, there clearly are no leveling bolds. The machine rests on the frame itself. For the time being, the mystery will remain unsolved. I will be anxious to find some spare time to clean and check out things and decide what I am going to do.

For clarification, I water tested the machine in late October, and I discovered that I have a pump bearing leak. In early November during my second wash party, we ran the dishwasher with a piece of Plexiglas mounted in place, so we could watch the action. Unfortunately, I did not make a video of the action, which I am real sorry we did not take the time to set up. Anyway, I have the Plexiglas, and I plan to make a video of the machine in action as soon as I can resolve the pump bearing leak issue - water poured out of the weep hole/tube - which is in place for just such a bearing failure.

looking forward to seing that video

sometime and if i can make it to your next wash party that you recently invited me to i look forward to seeing the machine itself.

i agree, the dishwasher should not rest on the motor/pump. larry is pretty much right on when it comes to knowing his machines, i would also assume that the pump/motor he sold you would be the right one and maybe the one that came with the machine was not.

personally i would not run that motor at all if you have a leak. hopefully you have a new seal? i would imagine between larry in parma or mark michaels with his huge frigidaire part stock and connections one should be available.

i found the same problem with that kd-14 kitchenaid i drove to cleveland and picked up last week on my week off from work. it seems that the motor/pump goes completely to the floor and the machine basically rests on it. i have not had time to post any pics yet but i do have it completely torn down and outside of that issue all else looks very good including the pump and seal. gonna get to it later this year, for me it's rollermatic time right now. finishing up 2 machines that i hope will be running very soon.

back to those wonderful spin tubes, they are so unique! i've seen impeller machines, spray arms, even that tappen roller machine with the large roller in the bottom to fling water, the younstown kitchen type central apray tube, and the frigidaire spin tubes? are there any other styles out there?

you and paul both have a very unique and classic vintage dishwasher there! looking forward to more pics (and videos) from both of you!

Got some work done on the Frigidaire this weekend...

Sunday was warm enough to be working out in the garage on this latest project dishwasher, so you can guess where I was... LOL Hubby had found some material that I think is going to work fine a new door gasket (I sent him out to get a new snubber for the Inglis washer, but that will be a whole other post!) but before trying that, I figured I'd give the tub a scrub out.
Here's the before picture...

And here's how it looked after some scrubbing. Still have a bit more to do (Geez they had lots of minerals in the water in Hamilton).

But whatever it was washed off (the same kind of gunk was on one part of the lower rack, too). So, it turns out the racks are in really great shape - bonus!!
With predicted highs in the mid-70s this weekend, you can bet I'll be doing the first water tests... Wish me luck!!

Paul, You are making good progress. The tub looks like it is cleaning up, but Gosh, I know how difficult it can be to get that scale off of the tub.

Be sure not to press hard on that rubber covering for the water pressure switch. I learned the hard way, and it cracked. Yours looks like it is still in very good condition.

The racks look in good shape too.

I hope when you do a water test, that you do not have a bad water pump bearing. You will know it if water drips or flows out of the thin silver tube underneath the pump.
