It's my parents' and it's not that old at all. My mom is a little rough on things and I think it initially started from her hastily loading pots and pans. The tops of most of the tines initially split and they now have rusted and expanded to about four times their original size about a third of the way down. I got a Whirlpool tine repair kit which would have been great had I gotten it before the tines were so damaged. The only thing I can figure that will work is to cut off the damage portion and then put the tine repair caps on. I'm not particularly happy with that solution.
