Dishwasher threats

Hello all,
Almost all of us here love dishwasher as it minimizes our household work. But dishwashers are dangerous too. I was just reading few articles and found that many people have died due to dishwasher accidents. Also if we search the most dangerous appliances in our home, dishwasher will be one among them. We should be very careful while dealing with them. We should try not to put the knife in a dishwasher because most of the accidents are caused by the knife.
Also in case of any repair it is not recommended to do the repair work by ourselves. One of the article which I read has clearly mentioned that we should not do such works alone(http://www.heritagehomedesign.ca/blog/six-home-renovations-you-should-never-diy/). So please be careful with the dishwasher. They are helping us a lot, but we should make sure that we should not completely rely on them. We should clean the sharp objects like knife and forks ourselves. Hope you'll find it useful.

Only thing that comes to mind is that horrible plastic cutlery basket that is found on cheaper dishwashers that sits in the bottom tray.

Many people place the knives with the blades facing up and outward, which obviously presents a danger.

The problem is that when the knives are placed with the blades down, it wrecks the plastic of the cutlery basket.

The better solution is a cutlery tray, like what I've seen in Miele and Bosch dishwashers, where knives no longer pose an issue regardless of whichever position they've been placed in.

I would rather have the utensil basket get damaged by a sharp tool such as a knife than my hand!Hence I load sharp tools blades down-so you grab the handle when removing the utensil.I couldn't find in the link where dishwashers are "dangerous".We can think of other appliances that are MORE dangerous then dishwashers.

I've always placed knives blade-down in my DW and have never had a damaged utensil basket.

you have to consider aspects of any given task....COMMON SENSE....and if you don't have that, you really should never consider taking on such task....

the main thing is, if certain projects re beyond your skill level, you should not be doing them in the first place.....

and believe me, there are people who can't handle screwing in a light bulb.....worse than that, can't handle a self sticking stamp...think I am joking?

as in most cases, and we read it over and over.....as in this case, the 'dishwasher' is dangerous!.....back up the truck, lets recoup, its the 'OPERATOR' that is dangerous....

granted one person may load and operate the appliance, and then comes the 5th wheel, who may load it wrong, you not realizing it, can result in injury as not expecting another knife to be placed blade up.....

but again, the dishwashers fault?....

some goes for past stories of bleach damage to clothing of a dark load.....yeah, right, washer's fault.....

I would love to see the worlds first washer that loads itself, and picks up that bottle of bleach and poured it into the dispenser.....would this be the same machine that folds the clothes too?.....

again, operator error......but would never blame themselves for the stupidity!....

Our Tappan/Fridge dishwasher a BOL, has  minimal clearance between the bottom wash arm and rack.  I always give the wash arm a spin to make sure really narrow knives points are not blocking the wash arm.  Knife points up here.  All the knives go in the back 2 slots. No kids here and we are used to its limitations. Works very well for an inexpensive dishwasher, 9 years never a problem.  A
