What kind of garbage disposal does everyone have? Mine is an ISE 777ss. I want to get a new one but the new ISE disposers all have removable splash guards which I can't stand.

We have a Waste King Gourmet pig. It has performed very well. We have the removable splash guard and its not an issue...in fact it makes it easier to clean since when it gets mucky I just pop it into the dishwasher. If its not removable then its prone to odor since you really cant clean it effectively.
I used to be a Waste King guy (I really like the removable splash guard) but the new house has one of the ISE Evolution disposers with the removable splash guard and I've been very happy with it!
VitaMix-use an older VM container as my "disposer".The sink strainer strains out the fibrous stuff-throw that away rather than let it go down the drain.It clogs the plumbing-my house was plumbed by the plumber from hell.

ISE Evolution. Have it over a year now and love it. NEver had a problem with a jam either.
I have an ISE also - not certain of the model however, but it's about 3 years old. The POS GE that my builder installed in 2003 rusted together!!! Can you believe that?
Anyway, I love the ISE, however I dislike the fact that it doesn't have a removable splash guard. Once you've had a disposal that you can take the spash guard out of to clean (they can get nasty) it's hard to adjust backwards.

Currently we have a Kenmore that's been in the house for about 20 years or so. It's fine, but I really don't like that the splash guard isn't removable. To me, it makes more sense for them to be removable so they can be cleaned and not stink. It's a hassle to clean a splash guard while it's in place.
Best disposal I've ever owned was a Maytag FC-5, I believe. I'd grab one of those if I ever came across one again. IIRC, during a recent conversation with an AW member who isn't a big Maytag fan, he advised that the one Maytag appliance he wouldn't part with is his disposer. I couldn't agree more.

I don't currently have a disposer, but am planning on buying a Kenmore model 60581 soon to put in my new kitchen. It's made by ISE, is 3/4hp, has SS works and usually on sale for $161.49. Customers have given it a rating of 4.5 out of 5 on Sears website.
LoL I have 22 disposal's now 1950s-2000s Waste kings,Old Maytag's Fc-10 and Fb-20,Old G.E.,Kitchenaids/Hobart,National,Elkays,Sinkmaster,I,S,E, E.T.C. I have always been fascinated by them and I don't have the room for more than a few dishwasher's and washer's. I can't use these disposer's out today cause they grind so coarse.The Evolution excel I can use but it is slow at grinding but vastly better than there others they have.Old Maytag's are my Favorite and I have two of those and it took me years just to find one.That FC-10 one of two on ebay I got but the bidding went up to 525 bucks for it.I did not care the last one went for over 600 bucks..I am using a 1970 Waste king SS8000 it is a great disposer huge machine and the price on the box was 299 in 1970 that is a ton of money for then.The other one is a Batchfeed 1985 Kitchen aid which is another great one.These old Machines have cast alloy grind rings and real blades in them and under cutters and will grind anything.
Tom, keep in mind that the glowing reviews on the Kenmore you're considering were posted on the Sears website.

I've had three ISE dosposers, one an expensive SS model & in all of them the moter seized up, I believe due to a leak. None lasted more than five years. I had put the ISE in the rentals I have, replaced them with $95 GE & have been very pleased with them, the GEs are loud but I don't mind, they grind fast & last. Doesn't matter to me if splash gurad is removeable or not but in my GEs they are, with age they will stretch & you can push them into the dosposer, a new one was about $6.
I had a vintage Waste King S5000 that came with the house (it must have been at least circa 1980) but it kept on jamming/seizing so finally I replaced it with a Titan 960 3/4 hp (by "Joneca"), which has worked very well so far. It's quieter and never jams. It's possible the Waste King could have been repaired. I offered up for free here last year but nobody was interested so I wound up throwing it in the trash. I did save the mounting ring, which I may use to retrofit the Titan (which has a sort of flimsy mounting system, my only real complaint).
The Titan did have an issue with one of the mounting screw holds not accepting a screw because some resin or plastic had fouled the threads. I just got out a screw tap of the right size and pitch (metric, as I recall) and that fixed it quick. It was kind of a bummer though trying to mount the thing under the sink before I figured out what the problem was.
It was very reasonably priced: about $70 at Costco, as I recall. I also picked up a 1.25 HP for about $80 at Costco which I'm planning on putting into the sink in the enclosed patio kitchen. I often wish there was a disposer there as I don't use that kitchen often and the waste basket doesn't get emptied often enough to use that route. Electrical and plumbing hookup will the the issue there, but I think I can get it to work.

We've got an 11-year old Sinkmaster in the kitchen in Montreal; it still works OK, but I think it is wearing out. While I was not working I scored an ISE model 17 from the local Sally Ann for a mere $10. It seems fine and just appears to be missing the drain hookup (which I have spares of...)

My disposer is a Whirlpool GC2000PE1 1/2 HP model. Judging by the design, it's probably just a rebadged In-Sink-Erator Badger made by Emerson Electric. It has plenty of power for my needs, never has jammed, and clogs very rarely while grinding heavy or fibrous food waste.
Emerson Electric's In-Sink-Erator brand is the product pioneer. I wouldn't hesitate to replace the Whirlpool with another ISE or rebadged ISE model once it wears out. And since Waste King and General Electric models are now made in China, I wouldn't even consider them.

I've had an ISE Badger 5, Kenmore 1/2hp, a Sinkmaster 1/3hp, and my ISE777ss. I hated the Sinkmaster because the splash guard was so stiff that when plunging food it used to always come out attached to whatever utensil I was using. I will say the Kenmore was a great disposer. It was definately a rebadged Badger 5 but it did seem to work a little better than the ISE. Never a clog either.

I have a Kenmore disposer
that I had put in in 2005. I really like my disposer. My only concern about putting in a disposer was that I not on a sewer system but a septic system. I only use my disposer for small stuff as I don't don't want to worry about having the septic system pumped out. Are any of your guys here in this situation as well? I know in some areas of the country, you are not allow to have a disposer for this reason.

If I am going to put a disposer in my home system-it too is on a septic tank-would use a model that has undercutters to chop up stringy material and give a finer grind.So far its hard to find batch feeders with undercutters-that is what my place was set up for-the batch feeder.Also my house was plumbed by the "plumber From Hell"that used undersized drain pipes.So far my old VM blender is my batch feed disposer-and I can take out the stringy stuff and throw it in the trash after hot soapy water has gone thru it.

ISE 777 too
I've been so pleased with my ISE 777. It's3/4 HP, and it has been a terrific workhorse for about 9 years. I'd never go below 3/4 HP. It's not worth the hassle of replacing.

I put in an ISE 777 in a townhome I used to live in-was a big advance over the worn out "Badger" that was in the place.
