Was Maytag the only brand that distinguished their gas dryers by putting a little flame emblem on the control panel? Seems like theh only way to tell gas from electric in other brands was to either look behind the machine, or look at the model plate for the AGA certification.

Hmmm....

I remember our 1967 Maytag DG 502, it was decidedly gas, and did not have any logo on the panel. Didn't need it--the pilot/burner access panel was enough.

It lasted until 1982.

We replaced it with a DG 510. By that time, Maytag had gone to a sparker, but still had the access panel.

My current Maytag dryer, a LDG 9806, does not have the access panel at all, but has a small plug port to view the burner, if need be.

Whirlpool did also

My Godmothers 1960 WP had a flame on the control panel. I think maybe 59 and 58's did also. Don't know much about before or after. And Norge did have them as well.

The Flame

I first noticed the flame on Maytags, never saw them on any other machine, that's why I posted the question. I still haven't ever seen a lightning bolt for electric that some have said was also used.

HI, I CAN'T FIND A LIGHTENING BOLT ON MY '58 DUOMATIC, BUT MY
'65 HIGH SPEED DUOMATIC HAS A GAS FLAME JUST BELOW THE WATER LEVEL KNOB ON THE RT SIDE OF CONTROL PANEL
THANKS

Gas DuoMatic

I would LOVE to see the engineering behind a gas combo. Those machines are already pretty complicated pieces of machinery in their electric versions, gas versions must REALLY be stuffed with parts. Plus I imagine thery are a lot rarer.
