Hey there Chris.

Thanks for the heads up, but it is one thing I am very aware of.

I use good old 20/50. Normally Castrol GTX though the KMX from Kmart is also meant to be very good.

AUSMINI.com has been a wealth of information and I also have a correct owners handbook, 2 BMC and a Leyland Australia workshop manuals that are also very explicit about the friction modifiers.

He currently has Penrite oil in him as this is what the mechanic used in Melbourne...though it was 20/60...I am about to have that out as I have not been happy with it (even though he was a mini mechanic) and have the coolant changed. I think the poor running though is more to do with a stuffed dizzy...He won't hold a tune and varies by over 6deg at times. I have an electronic one to put in, but am in two minds...he is a completely original car and by that I mean still positive earth, no radio etc....

Love the classic cars

At the car show, we had.

1953 Corvette (rare and worth $$$$)
Late 60s GTO conv. in mint condition.
Lots of Impalas and a few Mustangs
A NEW and old Dodge Charger (both had Hemis)
1954 Caddilac Coupe De Ville in ORIGINAL condition (orig. paint, motor, interior, etc.)
1979 Bug convertible
1920s or 30s Dodge (hand crank starter)

My favorite... The Bug of course.

My mother had the Morris 1300 in dark green, dad had the Austin 1100 in an airforce blue colour. Circa 1974-75.

Both were manual gearbox, so we had individual front seats rather than bench seats. I liked the little crystal lenses on the dashboard.

One time when both my parents had popped into a nearby shop, my sister and I were sitting in the green car which was parked "in gear" (gear lever in 1st). We came across the spare key in the glove compartment and started the car. The car kangaroo-jumped out into the middle of the street. Thankfully an old lady got my father who stopped the dreadful beast!

Ilove them I have a 64 Imperial,48 Desoto 4dr,56 Desoto 4dr,Ive always driven an old car and also as my daily driver.Keeps the car exercised.

Your cars are fantastic. I had never seen an Imperial until yours and I must say that I was stunned that something of such quality and refinement came from Detroit (mind you, I grew up in the 1980s and 1990s with Chevrolet Celebrities and K cars, which I don't think will ever be held in such high regard).

My 1987 Volvo 240 isn't a classic yet, but I'm working on it. Regardless of age, however, it will always be driven.

I have a 1964 Cadillac Sedan deVille, aka Kathleen. She's currently in storage since I'm having a hard time keeping her running and I don't have the money to put into her. When I can I'll scrounge up some pics and post them here, til then, here are her stats.....

It's not a classic...yet, but my 1984 Lincoln Continental Mark VII Versace Edition with only 46K miles on her will be there soon. I bought it in Ft. Lauderdale in late January, and have enjoyed the looks and stares. The interior is so fabulous, people think it's been restored. No, it's just been well preserved.

Here's her "rear end" shot with the infamous "Continental hump". The Mark VII was manufactured from 1984 until 1992, when the Mark VIII replaced it. The Versace edition was only manufactured during 1984-85, back when Versace was "...an exciting, promising young designer..", according to the sales literature.

Dave, Don't completely knock the late-70's and 80's GM products now. My '79 Caprice has been around for 30 years and has survived being flooded Hurricane Isabelle. She still starts up first try. One of these days she'll get a restoration, but not until I get the $. She was bought brand new by my great aunt and uncle. Mom and dad bought it in '89 and It became my first car in '98. There are a lot of memories in that car.
