Yay, I knew one would turn up eventually and it did this morning at the flea market and along with it no less a Kenmore Twin Fan in blue. Not only that but on my way home I stopped at you know where and found a Kenmore Whispertone canister with powermate for only $8 and it works beautifully albeit a bit scruffed up looking for now..
The Hoover works well, the cord has some tape around it but the general body is really fairly good for its age, only minor scratching. The Kenmore is in wonderful shape

Holy Smokes Pete!!

Now I know why I can't find any vacuums, they're all in Canada!!
The Hoover is a beauty, whats the model number on that? It looks very much like the US model 704, but the bag is different.
Gotta love that blue Kenmore too!
You have the best luck Pete!!

It's a model 711. I just realized looking at the picture that the color is way off, in reality it's more of a pink than orange and the Kenmore is a dark blue. I'll try another pic because the sun was shining in the window when I took that pic. And what do you mean they're all here.. you have the market cornered LOL
The Kenmore is one of the rebadged made by Ryobi's like my Singer, ultra cheap, ultra noisy but they sure pick up the nap when set to their lowest.

Do I ever come back empty handed? NO, and that's a bit of a problem LOL I take a bunch of stuff to sell and I end up replacing it with new purchases. Apparently I'm not the only one there with the illness, all the vendors do the same. It's fun and a way to pass the day and some days I sell more than I spend and some days not so I figure it pretty much evens out in the end. You have to be there right at the time all the vendors arrive as well otherwise the good stuffs gone in a flash to other vendors many of whom then take it to their table and stick a higher price on it. I've seen some items move through 2-3 tables the same day, each vendor making a little on the same item.

Pete what color is that vacuum????

In the first pic it looks mustard colored, like US model 704...in the 2nd pic it looks like its Sunset Orange, like US model 714...which is it?

That Kenmore is 1978 or 79 vintage(well that color was in the US anyway) so it would have been made by Singer.

the US model 714 is one of the rarest Convertibles made, only 44,000 some units produced!

The color still seems a bit off in the pic but closer in the second picture. I still say it should look a little more pink or salmon than it does in the second picture.. can you post a picture of your 714 see how that pic comes out. Plus, what is the bag difference?

ok if its salmon...

Pete a 714 is one I don't yet have, well I had one til another collector friend begged me for it.
The salmon color is called Sunset Orange, and thats identical to the US model 714
I see your model has the zipper bag, same as our 714.

The mustard model 704 had the snap bag...that was the difference.

714

the US model 714 was made from March to November 1968, with 44,290 units produced. It was a B-line model to the deluxe 1060/1010 set.

Yours looks like its in spectacular shape!

Large feet = large socks..

Here's a picture of my 714.. it's a very recent find! I was driving home from work, saw it in someone's garage (I could find a needle in a haystack if it was a Hoover needle...). I rang their doorbell, introduced myself and told them about my collection... we all had a good laugh! But, $5 later it was mine! It cleaned up beautifully!

The serial number on it (out of 44,000, mind you) is 38,521.

Thanks Jeff.. I admit I know zilch about these things, I had thought the dial a matics replaced all the convertibles in 1963. I see there's a 1953 model on ebay. Now tell me why is it that nearly every vintage vacuum on ebay is located in the Chicagoland area?

The Singer and Kenmore

I was just comparing the two which are essentially similar with the following differences.

The Singer has a headlight and 6 Amps, lacks beater bar and the foot pedal for adjusting the pile height on the right side, you have to slide a lever on the back for adjustments.
It's also missing the plastic "cover" over where the handle forks into the base of the machine. Has a plain looking bag and sports 6 Amps and Headlight on the body, even though it is a twin fan

The Sears has no headlight and only 4.5 Amps, has a beater bar brushroll and a foot pedal for adjusting the pile height.
Has a fancier printed bag and sports "twin fan" and "adjustable beater brush" on the body.

While they obviously vacuum very well the noise they both make is enough to make you hate vacuuming.

Both are made by Ryobi in Anderson NC

Kenmore(Singer)

I am not sure why you are saying the Kenmore is made by Ryobi. When Sears used the blue color scheme for their lines, the Kenmore uprights, like yours, were made by Singer in Anderson. Much later, Singer vacuum cleaners were acquired by Ryobi Motor Products and made in Anderson.

The later Kenmores(Singers) would have used a hand-dial/foot-adjust height adjustment knob instead of the lever on the Kenmore pictured. Other models had self adjusting height adjustment+.

Oh that's my being cornfusin. I was looking into the back of the Singer and saw Ryobi Anderson then looked at the Sears and saw Simpsons - Sears (being a Cdn model) and not Singer - /sears which was on my mind. I have to do all this with a dollar store magnifying glass you know. LOL
