Do you have specific days of the week for laundry?

I was thinking about this reading another post on the Imperial section about Westy slant fronts. Do you have specific days for laundry or for doing certain types of laundry?

I remember my grandmother who had a mid 50s Westy slant front set having specific days for specific types of laundry. Usually started with work clothing/clothing in general on Mondays, throw rugs and other non-clothing laundry was usually on Wednesdays and Fridays usually had the bed linens and anything forgotten the previous two days. She would not wash anytime after noon and certainly not at night and the night thing may be due to the Westy twins being in her bedroom. Don't ask..... I don't know other than it was convenient and she didn't want to walk it up and down the very steep steps to the basement. There was only one bath in the house - no room there.

I remember in later years when I lived with her after my grandfather passed I was in the habit of washing when I needed to be it morning, afternoon, evening even late night if it was necessary and the first time I ever had to wash something early evening she about had a fit.... "well, I don't wash at night" was the comment. Well, I had to have whatever it was washed so it got done - I did it, didn't mind it and it was done long before her bed time but she had just been in that habit for 40-50 years and couldn't fathom why anyone else would do something different and especially wash at night!

In time though she became ok with it. I think to she was used to doing all the laundry herself only thing is as a early 20s single guy I wanted to do my own - I definately didn't want her doing my laundry.... especially under clothing. You guys here will know what I mean - early 20s, dreams and sometimes you just had to take care of yourself from time to time so I definately wanted to do my own laundry!

I grew up with an Italian mother who always did laundry on Mondays. The Kenmore was rarely fired-up any other day of the week. (This would have been the 1960s-70s.)

I've been hanging laundry on the line for the past three years, so during those months---which in Minnesota generally span from April-October---I wash on Saturday and/or Sunday, with the first load hitting the lines around 7:30 a.m.

There is usually not enough daylight left for a load to dry if I try to wash after work on weekdays. I have been known to throw a load on the line before work, then dash home during lunch to take it in, but only occasionally---if inclement weather is forecast for the weekend, for instance.

During the "dryer" months, I wash whenever it's convenient.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday when I had a small portable (10 pound/5kg) top- loader and had to dry on a drying rack.

Satudays were reserved for bed-linens and towels, which were mostly dried in the buildng's laundry room's dryer.

When I got a bigger machine and a dryer, it was Monday Wednesday and Thruday, reserving Friday for compony or going out.

Now that it's just me with a full-sized front-loader and a super slow dryer (110v 1,250w) I wash darks on Thurdays.
Change the seheets on Friday night or Saturday morning and wash them on Mondays. Whites get done every two weeks on Tue or Wednesday, ususally. Rther than endure the dyrer for 3 to 4 hours I rack dry Fall, WInter and Spring and fluff in the dryer.

Wednesday or Thursday afternoon

I'm usually off one or the other. Three loads in the apartment's laundry room, Maytag TL's. Shirts hung on shower rod; underoos, hankies, pillowcases on folding rack; pants, towels, sox and sheets in industrial dryer/fryer. Then I iron everything while baseball game is on TV later or listen to the radio when it's not baseball season. When I have major stuff to do (blankets, drapes, curtains, throw rugs, etc.) I go up to my sister's to use her machine and clothesline.

Everyday is laundry day!

I usually wash when we get a load. For the Business, Tues, Thursday, and Friday, wash days for that.

I usually wash on Sunday afternoons or evenings--that way I can deal with the 3-5 loads I might have those days. Occassionally, I'll wash a load or two during the week after work, but I prefer weekend wash days.

Saturday mornings are my usual routine for doing most of my weekly laundry, or if busy, Sunday afternoon. I wash everything that has built-up. I usually wash one load at a time, but if I'm in a hurry, since I have three Kenmores hooked up right now and two dryers, I'll run up to three loads simultaneously if necessary, though I prefer one at a time.

One thing I really enjoy about the weekend laundry is a rainy or cold day when I can chill-out with the washer (and not feel like I need to be doing something else) and enjoy watching it like I did when I was a kid.

An exception - I do one or two loads of gym clothes during the week. I generally workout every day Monday through Friday, so with a towel each day, which I stand on after a certain point in the locker room, and sweaty shorts and t-shirts, it doesn't take long for these loads to pile up. I may wash this stuff once or twice a week in addition to the weekend wash.

I don't know about everyone else, but my wash volume drops in the summer. Instead of jeans, rugby shirts or long-sleeve heavy shirts in the fall and winter, I have a lot of shorts and t-shirts in the summer, which take up less room in a load. This is in addition to my work clothes.

Usually Friday...it's an exciting day for my 2 loads!!! Or, anytime through the week when I need stress relief (area rugs are my usual victims). LOL

Our wash day is Saturday. My wife does about 7-8 loads then Irons on Sunday morning. She separates everything by colors and type. 2 whites loads (one underwear/socks and one my white chefs jackets), grays, light colors, orange/reds. bright colors, blacks/navy and then jeans, then sheets and one for towels. Then if its cleaning week there would be a load of cleaning rags which will also include the towels i use to wash the car.

On a side note, our water heater broke last week and I found you can fit 14 bath size towels and a few hand towels in our Frigidaire front loader very comfortably.

My laundry gets done when one of the 3 piles (cold, warm, hot) gets large enough for a full load in whatever Maytag washer happens to be hooked up at that time. I bring my laundry down to the laundry room on a daily basis and have 3 separate hampers where I keep everything sorted. I've been having fun with the '75 806 Series 1 washer I recently finished a full restore from top cover seal down to the belts. Very strong agitation with an incredibly fast ramping spin. Yes, papa is proud!

Once a week - 4 loads on average...

When I have weekends off, I do laundry on either Saturday or Sunday, so I'm not in a hurry. When I switch to days off during the week, then I'll do laundry then. Occasionally, I use both my machines, but I never want to be in a hurry doing laundry, especially when I "savor" doing it with the old Maytag E2LP wringer washer!

I usually wash the clothes from my various weekend outings on Monday evening. Usually by Wednesday there's more. Thursdays are always socks and underwear day. Friday night I wash up the rest of the weeks work clothes, then Saturday morning I wash the bedding. Beyond that I usually have to do a load of towels about every 3 weeks. The 1-18 can do every single towel I have in the house in one load, the solid tubs need two loads.

LoL, I guess I have to get on that. I had the digital cam out in the garage the whole time, but only took pics of the transmission torn down, reassembled, and then filled with oil. Besides that, nothing out of the ordinary that gets posted pretty regularly. I really should get around to posting a video on youtube, I guess.

I do the laundry once a week during the weekday. Depends on what days I am off,and I do it on my first day off. (Most of the time I'm off Wed and Thur.)

If I have a weekend off, then I do it after work or before work, so that way I have my free time on the weekend with my partner.

The sheets are changed every third day, towels are used twice, kitchen linens are changed daily, socks and underwear changed anytime there is a clothing change and all other wearables are on an as needed basis. Everything is sorted by color and then by weight so that the laundry in dryer is done at the same time. I usually wash two loads of whites and one load each of "good" clothes and "everyday" clothes. About 4 loads a week, washed when the spirit moves me. I have a private laundry room but its two floors down and across the building. No impulse washing. Mom washed on Mondays when she had a wringer washer and round the clock with the automatic, although no laundry was allowed on Sunday, a day of rest. Grandma never did anything after two in the after noon because it was too late to start anything and God forbid you did anything but the supper dishes after 6:00 PM.

I do my laundry when the need arises. I used to do it on the weekends but I work every other weekend now. Usually once a week my 3 washers and 2 dryers get a good work out. I'm also one of those people that will throw a load in and walk out the door. I only do this if I must have something clean and don't have the time to be home to watch it wash.
Watching clothes wash is better therapy then and physicist or psychologist can offer LOL.

I wash when the need arises. Sometimes I've gone to the bar at my favorite sweatshirt or jeans gets smokey and I'll do a random load then. I do 2 loads of darks, 2 loads of whites, and depending on the machines I'm using, 3-4 loads of towels. I only use a towel once and it's dirty. I have 20 bath towels, around 30 hand towels, and 25 wash cloths. I generally wash my darks and whites every 10 days and my towels every 20 days.
