A report below shows that the tragic death of a woman caused by her tumble dryer had also been to blame for at least 20 other fires from the same model of dryer.

I don't know if it is just me, but any news stories like this and the appliance always seem to be a Beko (aside from the current Hotpoint recall).

I also remember Beko having an issue with their fridge freezers too; this really put me off them when shopping for a new fridge freezer even though Beko was the most competitively priced with the features they provided.

The news report goes on to say that the woman turned off her dryer at the mains, but apparently doing this would not have stopped the fire?

That is really scary. Of course, all appliances have the tendency to go wrong, but when researching appliance fires it is consistently Beko that comes up the most.

May the woman who died RIP and sympathies to her family.

No Beko here in the USA

only the Ford Transit connect from Turkey, but Beko has been around long enough.
They've had some fire troubles I hear, but so have American white goods makers.

In a word, yes. I trust them just about as much as I trust any other modern brand, anyway. For info, the dryer that caused the issue was part of a recall a few years ago. Clearly the user either didn't know about it or didn't do anything about it.

I'd trust a company who will admit it's faults and take the necessary action to resolve over one that simply ignores the issue or tries to sweep it under the carpet like Candy did with the Hoover-Candy exploding drums.

Ah right...

Wonder if the news article has reported it right, as the model number they have given was not part of that recall, news report went on to say that Beko would not issue a recall for the line of dryers in question.

I had one of those Hoover machines that were affected by the explosion issue, luckily mine never actually exploded, but the outer drum did crack 3 times, repaired twice and trashed on the 3rd one.

Daily Fail

No they're not, normally won't read Daily Fail, but will go have a look at their article, to see how it compares to the one I have posted.

Sounds to me

as if a couple of Brit's, and a Bulgarian should pool together and reopen the Myrth Hoover plant. I'm sure the blueprints are somewhere in the Candy archives.
Everyone has a price, and in light of the recent vote sway from the E.U., I bet the proper connection in house of commons could put a limit on Candy imports?
Well, one can dream at least.

Hoover re-birth

Would be super if we could only find a backer to help get the factory up and running again am sure there are plenty of people ready and able to work in there once more.

Oh to win the lottery..

Hoover..

You also have to bear in mind their are licensing issues. The name "Hoover" is now owned in Europe by Candy, so the brand would need to be bought back which Candy will likely not be willing to do as it's a well known, high profit brand. The Hoover company that we all remember and love no longer exists. Same with Hotpoint.

True, and yet,

a most gratuitously letter written to Mum may facilitate a visit and a request for a new relicensing under British law no? Show proof of faulty appliances imported which cause severe damage and or injuries.
Perhaps under European law, rather than a new company venture being titled Hoover LTD. it can be issued as Hoovers England for example, or any other name, like "Keymatic industries".

I do think

that manufacturing jobs would be good for refugees, and young people whilst in university, as not everyone is from a well heeled family.
Most tell me I live in the past though, when those jobs paid very well, and even retail and grocery jobs could support one through college and university. Nearly middle class for those who worked full time.

According to Companies House Hoover ltd is now owned by Domea SpA so perhaps Candy are having a bit of a re-structure. Also, as they say everything is for sale at the right price :-p

Yes true be that,

and money and politics have always followed one another. From the time Emperor Constantine built the church of the Holy Sepulcher in old Jerusalem, directly over the old chapel where Christ's body layed following his crucifiction.

I'll never get any Beko anymore !

My sister had several issues with her Beko dishwasher:

- The detergent dispenser leaked and has corroded the door due to a manufacturing defect, the plastic of the detergent dispenser were badly welded making an intermittent detergent leak when full !

- The drain hose can't resist to 70°C !

- And the last funny joke was a leak from the water softener due to a twisted gasket !
It took several months to get the one since the manufacturer's has mistaken with the part # and sent me the filter gasket instead (badly folded in a too small package to be sure it leaks !), then they sent me the salt dispenser cap !, then finally the right gasket !

Now I'm starting the bets for the next problem, electronic, pump, heater ?

Daily Fail

Any newspaper that fawns over the vacuous and skin wasting Karcrashian/Jenner family are not worth taking seriously.
