Nice percolators!

Yes, as far as code goes the AFCI's are required in sleeping rooms in new construction where table lamps and clock radios find bed frames and dressers jammed up against the cord to plug "interface", if you will.

Used other places where they might see heavy switching currents (electric heaters, power tools, etc) they can falsely trip sending you to the breaker box.

Allen, smalls was a new term to me as well until I spent some time here. Makes sense if you think about it, small appliances vs. large or major appliances. Vintage is the only way to go!

Code requirements

Hey Cory, the 2005 edition of the NEC did only require AFCI protection on circuits feeding bedrooms. However, the 2008 code expanded on this to require them in other rooms. As you know, laundry rooms, workshops, ect. are required to have GFCI's, so would be exempt from AFCI requirements in addition to kitchen and bath areas. The 2011 NEC comes out next month, so there may be additional changes to 210.12. In addition to new construction, AFCI breakers are required if the building is being "substantially" renovated or totally rewired.
