Does Anyone Here Use A Shower Filter?

Since I work in an extremely dry environment, I have very sensitive and dry skin. So I use one of those Shower Filters that filter out the chlorine. We have a central well for our subdivision and they chlorine the hell out of the water. Somebody here recently said that they have hot and cold running Clorox in their house, and that's about what we have. We initially got one based on our Dermatologists recommendation.
It does a good job and I don't get winter itch as often as I used to.
Today, it started leaking and stopped working. We didn't have a replacement cartridge available, so I just took it off until we could get one. Man, I'll tell you. When I finished my shower, my skin was all tight and itchy. Later Karen asked me if I bleached out the bathroom as the smell of bleach permeated the bathroom and bedroom just from my shower! The first thing in the morning I will go out and buy a replacement cartridge. I didn't think the results would be so dramatic.
BTW, I use Basis soap. Whenever I travel, I always have a bar with me.

I'm sure that system helps a lot. Atlanta was horrible for hot and cold running Clorox. Here in Roanoke it is not bad at all----however the water here is hard and the heat in the winter, drying.
I like to use soaps that don't have sodium talowaite and a bunch of other drying "sodiums" in them.
Just like when I lived in Florida, here in Roanoke I use the Kirk's Castile pure vegetable soap with great success.
If money is no object, L'Occitane makes a great all vegetable soap with Shea Butter that is wonderful in the winter months.

In any event, that filtration system sounds great.

I have sensitive skin, and I have used filters. It's hard to say how well it worked for me--I don't think the results were particularly dramatic, although the chlorine levels in the water were probably lower. Then, I have well water now, and I haven't noticed that my skin is totally perfect, although it's probably better than any other time in recent memory.

One thought about filters--even apart from dry skin, they may be a good idea. There has been some talk about the possible dangers of long term exposure to chlorine. It may be a good idea to avoid it as much as possible.

I have used one for years.....

I noticed a dramatic difference in my skin after using one. In the beginning, I had very hard, and very chlorinated water, and it was like magic the way my skin cleared, and was no longer "tight". I now have a whole house softener, and I still would not give it up.

FYI, chlorine in any form, is bad for your body. When chlorine is mixed with the steam from the shower, you are actually inhaling it. And being that the skin is like a sponge for anything that you put on it, you are absorbing it as well. So, there are many more benefits to it than just dry skin relief. I reccommend them to anyone who has treated, or hard water. The cartiges are not that expensive, and only have to be replaced every 6 months. VERY worth it IMHO.

Sounds like something I need. I have skin problems and I think a shower filter would help. Unfortunately they are not very common overher in the Netherlands. I will try a few stores.

Whirlcool, I have heard that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner will be pressurized more and can have more humidity. Think you could try to get assigned to a Dreamliner on account of your dry skin.

It would be hard for me to hold a line on the 787 due to the fact that I am ex-Republic. When Republic and NW merged, we got sent to the bottom of the seniority list. the same is pretty much happening with the NW & Delta merger. I am able to continue to hold the 757, but since I've only got a few years before retirement, that's where I'll stay.
But I have been in the mock up of the 787 interior. It's very beautiful. And the windows are HUGE! I did once hear someone talk about additional humidity in the cabin, which will be a great thing. The environment in an aircraft is extremely dry, usually around 5% or so.
