Hi everyone,
I am having defrost issues in my 1961 Frigidaire (FPI-15B-61) and believe it is the defrost timer based on reading past posts from folks here. Does anyone know the part number or know where I can find it? I haven't taken the fridge apart yet but would like to track down the part while I'm waiting.

Thanks in advance!

I doubt you'll easily find an exact replacement for this one as the 1961 defrost timers defrosted once a day. But the model that followed that defrosted twice a day is still available on some sites (your fridge could already have a replacement that defrosts twice a day).

The 1961 desfrost timer part number was 6591312

In 1962 it was changed to 7512407

What kind of tests have you done? If it stopped advancing, it could be manually turned on easily by the shaft.

Here's one that's fairly expensive...

There's also a Paragon replacement (and these are almost exact replacements for the 1962 style timer):

This one looks used or it has been stored in a humid place...

Thanks Phil....once again :-)

Hi Phil,
Thanks, once again, for being such a wealth of knowledge on these things. Here is what I have observed and what I've done to narrow it to the timer:

It started when I began to notice that the ice trays sitting on the bottom of the freezer floor would get frosted over on the metal sections but my ice server would have water in the bottom and food stored in my top roller shelf were starting to defrost. I finally looked at the temp gauges I keep in there and it was indicating a warmer setting than it should.

I took all the food and the shelves out and remove the metal floor to discover the entire coil floor was covered in ice. I read some of the previous posts on similar problems and started to remove the ice (very carefully) around the outside of the flooring as not to touch the coils for fear of breaking them. Then I located the defroster timer unit and manually initiated it and it worked. The freezer went into defrost, the compressor stopped, and tons of water (not literally) now ran into the drip pan. Once all of that ice cleared, the unit has functioned as designed and there is no sign of frost anywhere on the ice trays, no signs of water in the server, and all the food is nice and frozen plus the temperature gauge is keeping temps as expected.

I have started to manually initiate the defrost cycle by turning that shaft but I would really like to get the timer so that I don't have to keep doing it manually. I will look at getting one of the parts you listed above and see if it helps put the unit back to cycling on a timer as it should.

Thanks a million!!

It looks like you correctly identified the problem!

Than it seems your timer motor died! I just hope it's all it needs to work fine again!
