Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I bought some mini-cube trays at a local variety store about 15 years ago. They were not Frigidaire brand, just some generic version, translucent blue plastic they are.

So they may still be available, you just have to look around.

Anyone still have any of the aluminum type trays that had the little up and down handle on itt to twist up and down tha toperated a flapper in the middle of the tray that broke the cubes apart?

Speaking of ice cube trays, when I visited Japan, one of the hotel room fridges had these neat little bottles, with semicicular depressions on one side. You would fill the bottle with enough water to fill the depressions, freeze, and then shake the resulting ice cubes free. The advantage is the closed bottle helped to keep the ice from subliming and/or absorbing bad odors/tastes from the fridge interior.

I have been unable to locate these since then, even on-line. It appears someone took a patent out on the idea, and since then nobody's been able to sell them. Except for one on-line offering in Australia that I found, but I doubt they would ship to the USA.

Seems to me if someone takes out a patent on a good idea, they should see to it that the idea gets manufactured and sold.

Rich, that link is blocked for me at work but I am assuming it isn't about the Japanese ice trays you mentioned above. About a year ago I found what you described and bought one for my mom, who is legally blind. Filling a bottle up to a line drawn on the side would have been much easier for her than filling ice trays. We had mixed results. I can't recall where I picked up this item, but they are available.

Ralph,

Yeah, I don't think you bought your mom what was in that blocked link :-)

It would be easy enough to measure how much water it takes to fill the bottle's cube depressions, then find a measuring cup that delivers that amount when full, then add that to the cube bottle and gently shake to distribute the water.

I'll probably look in some of the chinese markets to see if they carry the ice cube bottle gadget.

I'll ask my partner if he remembers where we found that thing. It was within the last year. Could have been at some kind of cheapie discount store if not Bed/Bath/Beyond.

Now you really have me curious about that link. Will have to check it out from home!

Bottle Type Ice Cube Trays

Try marine stores. I bought some years ago from West Marine; I used them in the small fridge on my sail boat and they worked quite well.

I believe I have seen these recently in the Harriett Carter catalogue that we get in the mail on a regular basis. I am sure you could go online to them and order.
