In Canada, Speed Queen(Alliance Laundry System)is sold under the Huebsch Commercial banner with basically the same model numbers and warranty.

They also make a line for a department store which they sell at a lower price, but also has only a one or two year warranty [they ironically badged under the "Eurodesign" name :) ]

Since Sears Kenmore has their machines made for them, anyone know if there is a Speed Queen in Kenmore clothing?

Unfortunately No.

There are not even many Whirlpool built machines left in the KM lineup. Sadly most now are made by LG and Samsung. They share little more than a name with the high performace, durable Kenmores made by Whirlpool in the past. A SQ built line could bring some credibility back to the KM name though.

Hi Petek,

I saw the "Eurodesign" ones at a Tanguay store a few years ago. Had no idea who made them but noticed the "Made in Usa by Aliance Laundry System" sticker. Googled it and discovered it was Speed Queen, and in Canada it was sold under the Huebsch name.

Decided to go across the street to the Corbeil store and pay a little more to get a Huebsch for the longer warranty...also for the fact that the Tanguay salesman was a complete jacka$$.

Here is a link to a Huebsch Canada dealer locator:

Perhaps other chains carry the "Eurodesign", might be worth contacting Huebsch directly.

Alliance topload washers and matching dryers are also sold under Continental Girbau's "Econ-O-Wash" line. I have this washer in the coin-op version. It was about $600 less than what Speed Queen wanted for the exact same machine. I'd like to get the Speed Queen Quantum control panel for my machine though... Maybe someday!

Whirlykenmore, I just don't get it on the stock market site when they discuss the value of the Kenmore/ craftsman Brands. I too think the quality has left the brands. They may have a few sales left, i doubt many of those will be repeat shoppers for appliances. The public will go through a learning curve soon I hope.

"that is too bad....They always used to have one very basic, but very solid model....I guess Kenmore is now Kenless ;)"

Whirlpool stopped making the direct drive design three years ago except for commercial units and washer/dryer combo's. Now they have the belt drive piece of junk that is sold under the Kenmore name, among several others.

Funny

The Speed Queen "Econ-o-wash" says it is constructed for unmatched longevity -- which is explained as a lifespan of 5 to 7 years at 4 to 6 loads a day. That's longevity? My how times have changed! I wonder if this machine has the "grey-water rinse?"

Econ-O-Wash longevity

Think about it, worst case scenario (4 loads a day for 5 years), that's 7,300 loads of laundry. Doing 7 loads a week at home it'll still last 20 years.

It does have the grey water rinse as an option, but it's not required. It's set up so that the user can make that choice. It has Regular, Permanent Press, and Delicate with the grey water rinse, and it has the same three cycles again with a full deep rinse like an old machine.

Roger,

Few years ago while reserching washerson the net prior to buying my Heubsch set, I saw a post saying that Alliance unloaded a batch of older models they haven't sold and that Tanguay and Breault & Martineau (same company) bought a batch.

Look at the first 2 digits of the serial number (manufacturing year) and get back to us. I would put my hand in fire that it starts with "06".

Huebschman,

That was about 3.5 years ago, and haven't been back there since.

At the time they said there was a 2-3 week wait as they didn't have any in stock and refused to sell us the floor model...not good when you have already been withiut a washer for 10 days.

We got a Huebsch from the Corbeil across the street instead.

Roger, the grey water rinse in Speed Queen topload washers is quite icky and I'm glad they seem to be doing away with it! Basically, the machine would fill up for the wash, agitate, drain away half of the water, fill back up and agitate again. (The second agitation was the rinse.) So the rinse water was half fresh water and half dirty wash water.

Golittlesport, sorry if I sounded a bit short, I just really love my machine.

Eurodesign

To Roger.

Well Roger, did the same thing you did about 3.5 years ago too and walked right across the street to Corbeil...

Looks like we're living in the same city.

Will go take a look at Eurodesign's serial number this weekend...

Pulsator:

Thanks for the grey water definition...it's disgusting! Knowing that washers never drain 100%, means that you start each wash in the previous user's "juice".

Just out of curiosity, was your washer much more expensive than a home laundry Speed Queen? Can you give us a ballpark figure of what your washer cost?

Huebschman:

Their main selling point back then was that it was the same machine, with an inferior warranty to sell at a lower price. Is that still the case?
