OK, now another son has asked me to use my Miele washer to get the armpit stains out of his graying T shirts that have been washed in a Maytag washer with a "green" detergent. I read the manual for my Miele W1203 washer, and on the "Sanitize" cycle it says the water is heated to "95". I am thinking that is Centigrade, not Fahrenheit because the window is very hot on that cycle. So, I looked at the manual for the Maytag Maxima Steam washer, which also has a "sanitize" cycle, but I do not see a specific reference to how hot the wash water is. I have two questions: 1. Does the Maytag Maxima Steam Washer have a heat booster? and 2. If it does have a hea booster, how hot is the water heated on the "Sanitize" cycle?

Not positive on the Maxima, but because it is a steam machine I am going to say YES it has a heater.

Again not speaking of the Maxima, but my 5000 series says the sani-temp is 155 degrees F. I do know that depending on the incoming water temp, it can take up to three hours, but it do get hot. Then followed by a cooling spin purge before the first spin, and followed by two cool down rinses after that. The clothes still come out warm to the touch.

I have found that undershirts prevent the stains on shirts, and it's much easier to clean the white shirts on high temp washes without damage.

I recently asked Maytag about their wash temps and heater usage on the Maxima. Here is their reply:

1) When is the heater used?

The heater is used for the cycles that you can choose Steam Sanitize (extra hot) water temperature.  The cycles that you have this choice with are “Heavy Duty, Whites, Power Wash, Bedding and Allergen.”

2) What are the target temps?

The min/max temperatures would be as follows:
Sanitary/Super Hot (Duet HT) - 153 degrees
Whitest Whites/Heavy Duty Hot 127 degrees
Normal Hot - 122 degrees
Warm - 104 degrees
Cold - 77 degrees
All temps are plus or minus 10 degrees

The front load washers will take hot water in on a cold wash as well, as they have been set to have a cold wash of 77 degrees. This is part of the ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) system. This allows the detergent to dissolve better, affecting the wash quality and the life time of the washer (less detergent built-up in the pump). Please note, the rinse is cold (no hot water added)
