Dreaming of the Geneva cabinet with the mixer lift (ISO)

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Sarah, I imagine one of those kits would be dangerous to have! One of the GE cabinets I have has the mixer stand, and an older Geneva cabinet (the one with bakelite handles) has a similar contraption, but it's a cutting board that swings out instead of a shelf. I also have a newer Geneva cabinet (metal handle) that has a pull out countertop that I love. Even though the cabinets are all painted to match, they don't look quite the same due to the different handles. I'm usually particular when it comes to things like that, but I loved those cabinets so much, I had to have them in the kitchen no matter what. It's those little details like that, that make me love my vintage things so much more. Jeannine

Dangerous is right!

I'd love a curved base cabinet, and one of those end sets of curved shelves! Fortunately, I'm certain my craftsman can do the open curved shelves... oh, but there is so much more, and I'm already out of kitchen!

I have one Geneva curved base cabinet and one upper. However, due to our kitchen layout, we can't use them in there. I love them so much, I'm bound and determined to put them *somewhere* in my house, but still haven't figured out where.

Mixer shelf

OH, how I wanted one when I re-did the Ogden kitchen! I found one in an abandoned house years later, but the owners were not willing to sell it to me. I did walk out of there with the mixer that went on the shelf, though. And a hi-fi... LOL

Sarah, it is a shame that they are currently in storage, but they are in good company with piles of other metal cabinets--lol. We found these cabinets near St. Louis and picked them up a couple of years ago, and even drove through a rare snow storm in Alabama on the way. We are going to see if the bottom cabinet will fit in the corner of the dining room, although I'm afraid it's going to take up too much space. It's already packed with stuff that can't fit in the kitchen!

Paul, a round cabinet would have looked awesome in your kitchen! Glad you were able to at least get a couple of cool items from that house. I had no interest in getting a mixer until I got a cabinet that had the mixing stand, and of course, now I have 3! (mixers, not cabinets).

No, can't blame you for trying,

as I would be doing the same thing. After exhausting all possibilities, then I might consider rehoming. The round cabinets will work in the dining room, but if they are too much, it's because I also have a large vintage wooden hutch in there. If I keep the cabinets, the hutch is going to have to be moved to another room where it will work with the space and decor. It was another piece I had to have, so put it on layaway and then shoved it in storage as well until I could figure out where to put it.

Geneva mixer lift

Jeannine,

Does the mixer cabinet look like the one below--french door on top with a drawer below? If so, it should be easy to spot without asking every seller to look inside their cabinets...

Geneva vs. GE

The Geneva cutting board cabinet I have does have the french door on top and drawer bottom. It's funny as the style of handle (like the one in your drawing) makes the two on the top look like eyes and the one on the bottom a mouth, so the whole cabinet looks like a face.

The GE mixer cabinet has a drawer on the top and a single door on the bottom.

Mixer cabinet handles

The handles in the drawing are the ones with the plastic inset. I would prefer the plain chrome handles, but, if I found one with the plastic, I probably wouldn't pass it up.
