Dryer Balls

Ok, here goes..

We have these dryer balls... One set is made out of rubber, the other set is made out of plastic. The latter is a cheap knockoff.

I really do not like the noises these things make when they're tumbling around in the dryer, it's almost like they would put dents in the drum, but somehow they don't.

My wife swears by these things, but I don't think they do all that much. They are supposed to shorten drying times and replace anti-static dryer sheets. I honestly think they're a crock.

What do you guys/gals think of these things?

for what their worth.....tennis balls in the dryer would give you the same effect...and only seemed effective with a load of sheets or a comforter that would ball up while tumbling....

Our dryer balls do nothing to prevent our king size fleece sheets from combining into a tight ball in the dryer.  I only use them with towels anymore because I don't even own any fabric softener except for Purex crystals, which I use sparingly.  Purex crystals won't prevent static cling, so for any dryer loads that contain static-prone items, I throw a softener sheet in.  I don't think our dryer balls came with any claims to eliminate static cling.  Their main purpose is to fluff things up in unscented fashion.

 

I've found that with an average to large dryer load, the balls make some noise at first but quickly go silent as they mix in with the contents.

I think the price is whatever the market will bear. 

 

Off hand, I can't think of any active members here who are less than a several-hour drive away from these machines.

I have a king sized bedspread (not a comforter) that balls up when drying. I put three tennis balls in with it and it does very little to keep it from balling up and not getting dry in the middle. I can't see how the dryer balls would be in different, but I've never tried those.

Dryer Balls

I can't see how they would do anything but cause noise, more clothing wear and possibly contribute to a greater fire hazard as it is not a great idea to have additional plastic or rubber in a heated dryer.

 

I can't tell you how many times I have gone on a service call on a non-heating dryer, etc and when I push the start button I immediately here all this racket from these stupid things in he dryer. LOL.
