First of all, my dryer was beginning to look a little sad. Laundry appliances here don't always enjoy the climate controlled protection that their mainland cousins have. The constant assalt of salt air, cane fire soot and gecko poop had taken a toll. All I really needed to do was the main top, which I could have simply redone in boring ass white, but what fun would that be?

I have had severe pink dryer envy ever since my visit with Robert last summer and seeing the lovely pank Lady Kenmore set. My chances of ever finding a dryer of that era here is slim. There were just not a lot of dryers here in Hawai'i during that time as they were then considered a luxury. If there were any, rust has long since eaten them.

So it's not vintage but it makes me quite happy to have a pink dryer. I think pretty dryers dry better than plain ones. I hope Bethann likes it! (Hi Sweetie!)

I used a special paint for the plastic parts, and recoated the main top with clear coat for extra protection. I would have liked to do the control panel, but did not want the humbug of redoing all the graphics, so I settled for a "parfait" look. I didn't bother doing the sides.

Now what to do about that ugly washer...

The dryer looks great! nice job on the paint!

For the control panel, you could use tinted glass or plexiglas maybe? Overlay it on top of the control panel, and have it tinted to your color of choice. You could also maybe sandwich a pieceof stage lighting gel between the glass and the control panel

I LOVE it David! The dryer looks fantastic! I think the control panel looks fine the way it is. Looks like pink and white to me. Very fun!

David, I love the way you achieved such a delicate, pastel hue of what? just the faintest almost more white than pink shade of pink. You did a really professional job on that, of course, it does not have the texture that my painting always has with those little nubbins of hard paint near the bottom and brush marks like the furrows in one of Van Gogh's fields. If it's ever stolen, it won't be hard to spot; it is one Kenmore in a million. You could use that tinted plastic food wrap as a control panel overlay, like that protective shipping film that you find on 20 year old dryers. Congratulations! Tom

I LUV IT!

As I said in another post about a month ago, I'm addiing Pink to my color line-up. And this is why.

I think it might flatter my new persona too.

I think you did and EXCELLENT job. I wouldn't do anything different. Well from the picture you can see it doesn't have the same sheen as an appliance would have. But giving it a couple of coats of wax is very easy and will protect it. It will also give it that final appliance finish and final touch of believability.

I think the control panel is fine as is. You did the main knob edge, good detail. I think it might be too much over the top and unbelievable, given the dryers age, if you were able to do the back ground. And a lot of work. These projects should ultimately be fun.

You even did the plast door handle. I hope that wears well.

Again, EXCELLENT!
