For those of you who have dryers and use them.....

What temperature do you use most often?

For everything except towels, I use "Delicate" heat and the "Intellidry" cycle on my Maytag Dependable Care gas dryer.

Everything comes out well.

Ever since I got my front loader, I use medium for towels, jeans, and sheets as well as most golf shirts and whites. I use delicate some, but not as often as medium. Haven't used high since October 2006. I have a Maytag Dependable Care with IntelliDry.

Depends on the dryer

The DR-3 (Westy Slant Front) seems incapable of burning anything, despite the blast of heat. Of course, we don't 'do' synthetics.

In my mom's FL, I use High for towels, medium for everthing else except those horrid, nasty throw rugs with the icky rubber backing. Do them on low.

They don't peel.

My honey's GE drys stuff faster than any other dryer I have ever seen, but on 'high', it will burn anything if you don't watch it.

I think there are just plain some designs which don't work too well and others which are bloody brilliant.

Temp on my F&P SmartLoad is tied to the fabric selection, and I use the appropriate one for the load. Bulky items such as quilts and comforters go on Delicate / More Dry. I rarely use timed drying, for pillows and Brenda's down comforter (several 40-min runs on Delicate). 20 min timed at Perm Press for de-wrinkling or refresh.

Denim = high 149°F
Regular = high 149°F
Perm Press = medium 140°F
Delicate = low 127°F

It holds the temp on a 5°F differential. Has dual heating elements, 3.6 KW and 1.4 KW. Both elements run on high in the forward tumble direction. Only the 3.6 KW runs in forward tumble on medium & low. Only the 1.4 KW runs in reverse tumble for all temps.

My Neptune

Hi, Lawrence. I have a Maytag Neptune dryer made in Korea by Samsung. 7.6 cubic feet. It also says it has a sensor that will alarm and shut it down if the CFM's get lowered due to lint build-up. I always use the normal dry cycle. I wish it would go backwords like the FD dryers. Mine will give you a signal telling you to re-adjust the load. That damn but good dryer cost me $1200 at Belowes.....Bill in Az.....

On the one dryer I have been using for the last 12 years (Frigidaire - electric) I use the "medium" settin for 98% of what gets washed.

For sheets I have always used "low" because the "care tag" calls for low heat.

Recently I have started using "high" for the heavy, fluffy (non-rubber backed) bath mats.

I dry everything, towels, jeans, t-shirts, socks, underwear, sheets, blankets, comforters, EVERYTHING on low heat. It all just seems to come out softer and fluffier! However, my Miele dryer and Bosch dryer both dry at cool enough temps anyway that I just set them on regular... (Any idea what those temps might be on the Miele and Bosch dryers?)

It does depend on the dryer

My Neptune 7500 gas dryer tends to err on the side of gentle.

It can output actual temps, but most of the time I just select one of the verbal temperature options: regular, moderate, delicate, extra low, etc... I have found that for perm press it's necessary to select the highest temp: regular. Otherwise the wrinkles are not released. Also, there are several dryness levels. Normal usually leaves damp cuffs and corners. Generally I select "more dry" to avoid that, but there still may be some slight damp.

In contrast, my WCI (Frigidaire) gas dryer always ran hot, so I never selected HOT, but rather used the WARM setting for most things.

Our Affinity has pre-set or "suggested" temps associated with the cycle selected. You can bump them up or down, but some max out below the highest temp setting. The "Towels" cycle uses the "Maximum" temp and because this dryer is smaller than most FL pairs, I find I generally need to use higher temp settings. If I select anything below "High" temp for large loads of heavier duty clothes, they won't come out dry. Rubber backed throw rugs go on a lower setting, but that's about it. Compared to the POS Amana we used to own that got so hot the air coming out of the vent smelled like somebody was ironing, this Affinity dryer (albeit on the small side) and the Duet we left behind handle the clothes much better.

Something strange but good to mention. European dryers have only 2 choices of temperature. High or Low. I think that Medium on american dryers is high on european. It has to do with the max volt and ampères on the circuits. I dry everything on your 'medium'. Rest of the loads are hung out.

I've got a Miele dryer, I do most clothes on Low Heat, Sheets on Normal and Towels, Dog blankets etc on High Heat. Since I took the condensor out, most full mixed loads take about 90 mins with 2400watts

I dont know that low is that low however, I still usually end up with wrinkled bands on undies, but the usually stretch back into shape.

Towels, jeans, and sheets high. t-shirts, dress shirts, and dress pants medium-high. Blankets usually medium or medium high.

Med. for most loads

Low @ 130
Med @ 180
High@ 225

A load will dry in 22 mins. and cools for 5

Just as in the washer, heat removes color and fades clothing

High for whites (cotton), rugs, jeans
Medium for darks (mostly to all cotton)
Low for tackiness (such as artificial fibers).

Medium on the 81 Kenmore, 806's, 750, and 641C. High temps leave the clothes too crispy and harsh for me. It also burns out the softness of the fabric softener.
