My sister's 20 yr old GE dryer finally bit the dust today...seems it would not heat. Before I knew it, she was out shopping for a new dryer. She did not like the Whirlpool or the Maytag models at Loews. She liked the GE model but I told her that they did not have a great reputation. Seems the digital GE Profile model that she wanted was not in that particular store. Rather than wait, she went ahead and purchased the GE Harmony(I think) with the window in the door. Wonder how she will do with it? Any have any experiences with that dryer?

Wrong Model

My sister bought the GE dryer from Lowes with the controls 'on the front'. Sorry for the wrong model. I think someone here has that washer/dryer set. Any feedback?

As far as I know, GE still manufacturers its own dryers. CU rated them # 1 a couple of years ago and I looked at a couple of Profile TOL dryers at a Best Buy recently and liked what I saw. Stainless Steel drums and a very solid sound when slamming the door shut (like on a well-made car). GE gas dryers always had reputation for being exceptionally fast and I liked that some had Anti-bacterial heat selection.

I'm told that Fisher & Paykel dryers are made by GE; I wonder if that includes their new Top-loading model. That is one cool machine.

F&P's topload dryer is made by F&P in NZ. F&P frontload dryers sold in the U.S. are made in Canada by Camco, which is a subsidiary of GE (as I understand).

The GE dryers with the controls on the front and solid, that match the GE branded Electrolux/Frigidaire front-loading washers are also built by Frigidaire. They were reportedly not that reliable and somewhat cheaply built, but they seem to be holding up OK. The newest GE front-control dryer is Chinese built - that would have a window in the door as well so maybe that's what she bought? Reliability on those remains to be seen as they are very new to the market.

my dryer

last may i bought a new ge dryer. can't remember the model number but it was about 540.00. it has all electronic controls and is a profile model, but not the tol. the dryer was the one highly recommended by consumer's report, and in the latest round was recommended again(the dryers list higher than that were much more expensive) i love it--it is fast, quiet, has a ss drum and drum light. has several preset cycles which you can easily alter any part of.

Bought my mom a GE Dryer in 2000 'cause the Frigidaire from '59 hat finally bit the dust.
Mega bummer, but no time to repair it.
Got the extended warranty cause of the bad rep GE has (was the only one I could get in the time I had).
Maybe because of the warranty, but it has run perfectly and had no problems for 6 years now. I do clean all dryers out thoroughly every year...the lint build up in the case and exhaust is what causes all those tragic fires...and, I suspect, kills them. That lint is a perfect insulator.
The little Sears from 1971 upstairs had to have a few pulleys replaced in 2005...and it has been drying stuff everyday for 34 years. I dunno, it just seems like dryers either work forever or they have nothing but trouble from day one.

The GE Harmony is actually an LG

i am big into reading the labels on everything. The label on the GE Harmony is made in Korea.Moreover, upon furter research, i looked at LG AU website and saw something similar to the Harmony a TL with turbo washing and no agitator. LG also makes some of the Fridges as well.I looked at them side by side before I bought my mother a new one. The new GE dryers have had some service issues. i looked in a bone yeard a couple of weeks ago when I was looking for parts and saw a couple of GE, fairly late model GE dryers there.

My sister likes the dryer a lot. It dries very well and quick(after all, her old GE was 20 yrs.) She is very happy so far with the results.
