Allen, did you see in the thread on the Turqoise Kenmore set harvest gold found, in the Sears catalogue there was the comment about the dampener ball. That was a pink plastic ball that looked like the "globe" for a Norge Cleaninig village. Talk about a racket when that dampener ball was put in the dryer!!! Sheesh!! This small dryer balls pale in comparison to that dampener ball.

Boxer shorts and/or a little talc

Actually the blue ones are supposed to be heat tolerant.

IIRC Gary's spikes are burnt and a lovely brownish-black color.

There're blue balls @ WM here. I considered fetching a box, just for Ss & Gs ... but only for a moment. BUT ... when I run outta Downy Advanced, it may be something to try!

Playtex 18-Hour Rival?

Says they "lift and separate" fibers. What a crock! Sounds like those magnetic fuel filters for your car that supposably double your mileage.

Imagine having to buy blue balls, I guess I am lucky as I can get them for free.

I tried these too, and returned them for the same reason Seamus did; they clang and clatter around noisily in the drum. Once they warm up and soften they do get quieter, but that takes about ten minutes, by which time I'm already thoroughly P'd off with the constant racket.

Didn't find the balls left clothing any softer, so still used my usual liquid softener or Bounce as normal, nor did they shorten drying times as promised. Their pummelling action did help to prevent bed linens tangling and balling up (the main reason I tried them), so they weren't completely useless to me. But I since found out that adding a single heavy towel to the load accomplishes the same thing, only with zero noise.

Guys, balls tend to make noise when they are slapping around, we all know that ;-)

I find that things quiet down fairly quickly in my dryer and that the balls do help to keep things from tangling up. The fact that my dryer is in the garage makes the first few minutes of noise a non-issue. I'm not fond of detergent or fabric softener smells left on my laundry and I do think the action with the balls helps with fluffing . . .

OY!~ I go to a wonderful dinner last night with friends in Greenville NC and come home and find my blue balls nline... Hehhehehe

I hated them, my grandmother likes them for some odd reason

I've been using these dryer ball things for over a year now, no complaints here...
well except for when one gets into a sleeve or something like that and I have to go hunting for it....

I may try them

i do not use alot of fabric softener. However, I do wash alot of sheets that get tangled. One solution that i thought about is to wash a smaller load of them.Twice the fun, two loads! other than that, sheets get tangled up, even with my dryer, they are prone to that. I saw them at the Oregon State fair, I was with a family member that said to me when I walked away choice words about how she felt about them. I am not a big noise person in my laundry room. The washer and dryer are between the bedroom and the living room.
