Hy guys. Yesterday a television show investegated in the new green way of energy... They did some research and found out that solarenergy is the best way to produce electricity for home use. So far so good. On the internet site the threads on the forum where mostly talking about the fact that some appliances use so much electricity. Heating water without taking advantage of the sun/light should be banned here,... but someone pointed out that drying laundry in an automatic way takes up 30% of the use of electricity and said that there where other ways to dry automaticly... e.g. lowering the air pressure so water would evaporate easier, I thought using microwaves would also be a nice thing... if you introduce them in a softer, controlled way... do you guys have newer idea's to dry laundry automaticly?

I find it very, very hard to believe that dryers eat up 30% of the electricity used in the entire country of Belgium! What percentage of dryers in Belgium are electric vs. gas? The simplest way to reduce energy used by dryers of any sort is to promote washers with high-speed spins - the less moisture you initially put in the dryer, the less energy is needed to complete the drying process.

Solar energy is good and should be promoted, but it must be remembered that all buildings aren't suited for solar retrofitting due to problems with proper exposure to sunlight, access to the roof for maintenance of solar equipment, and proper flashing of the solar equipment mounts to prevent water leaks.

Ok first of all, NO gas dryers here. All dryers are electric because not all of the houses have acces to gas and it is very expensive too... Only commercial laundry facilities have gas dryers. Well having washers that do max spins going from 1100-1600rpm's the moisture is not really a problem either... we just need an other way to heatup the water and extract it out of clothing... Oh it's 30% from normal household use.

In the winter, divert the heat and humidity back into the home---if your dryer is electric. Use a pair of stockings/pantyhose to filter out the lint/dust.

And of course do laundry every other day using this method not 5 loads in one day. Excess humdity leads to mold and mildew.

If your home is heated by a heat-pump, (i.e. a reverse-cycle air-conditioner) have the dryer exhaust near it so it can pick up the heat.

The idea of using microwaves in clothes dryers is not new. The technology to avoid accidents, however, is hairy. You'd need a sensor to detect things such as a disposable cigarette lighter in a pocket that would explode and cause a major fire if microwaved.

Dont's ady it cant' happen........

I had friends use my dryer. Her Husband is a police officer. There were bullets jangling around my dryer, which was located next to the stove. How my jingle-bobs were not blown off while I was stirring a sauce is beyond me.

All new dwellings here now have to have solar hotwater collectors installed as part of the building approval. There is a cutoff of around 2012, when new electric resistance tanks will banned and have to be replaced with Gas, Solar or heat pump.
