I have the main unit and carry rack in the house, alot of the accessories were packed into various boxes when we moved, have not found them all yet. They are here, just don't have them handy. This is a pre-move photo.

This is just how I got it from the lady in Pomona, as I mentioned a few weeks ago in an Electrolux thread.

I fired up the vacuum the other day just for grins. Quieter than I thought it would be, but hardly any suction at all. Leaky hose? I don't know.

Just thought I would post for fun.

Model 30

I may be wrong but isin`t this a salesmans display? I`ve seen one described as such on ebay. Very convinent way to take it all with you.

Yes-I have also seen these on EBAY and other things-as a salesmans display-demo unit. The low "suction could be due to bad hose ,clogged cloth bag-or worse case-dirty motor suction fans.If cleaning the bag and checking the hose doesn't help-than the fans could be very dirty and clogged from years of use-dirt collects on their blades badly lowering the efficiency. You will then have to dissemble the machine and remove the motor-remove the fans and clean them and the inside of the fan housing. This would apply to "worse-case" conditions.I know an electrolux man who did that all the time with "luxes he worked on-it was amazing how much fine dirt the fans collected-and in their housing lowering the efficiency-he cleaned them and WOW! the performance was back to new.

Thanks Tolivac

There is no bag in it, I just fired it up as is (not to smart but just did it quickly away from any dirt) and noticed no suction. I will take your advice.

The top of the rack has a label on it with a salesman's name and a phone number in Upland.

If I remember correctly,

There was some suction at the end of the machine (I do not know if it is up to specification, as I have nothing to compare it to) but hardly none on the hose. IT was not apparent that the hose was leaking anywhere that I could tell. I did roll a few small object through the hose and they went through fine.

Kevinpreston3: am I right that your 'Lux vac is a model"30" or TripleX-those used reusable cloth dump bags.If its bag is missing-that may be the problem.A "lux dealer should be able to get them-or a vac collector could help-I have a similar cleaner to yours-but mine doesn't have the salesmans rack-display.Thats pretty cool-and actually convenient.Mine has the "tools on board" tool saddle.thats pretty cool the rack has the phone#'s on it-wonder if he has noticed its missing??Usually the "display" is kept by the saleperson. He gives the prospect the tool saddle or a box to keep them in.

I just assumed....

that this was the closet rack that they came with. Hmmm, maybe the lady got/inherited the guy's display when he retired. She didn't say, she just said that she had it for years. Interesting.

Pleasant surprise

She had given me a box that went with it that I never looked inside, it just sat on a shelf in the laundry room.

Very cool...that accessory stand is pretty rare according to Charlie Lester (www.137.com), so hang onto it!

Give it a thorough going-over and cleaning (it does look a little dusty), and make sure the cloth bag is clean/unclogged. Did you remove the hose and check the suction at the machine end? While not the most powerful Electrolux made, the XXX's certainly weren't weak by any means, IMHO.

I also didn't notice the white dusting brush...YAY for MIB accessories!!! Quite an interesting color compared to the gray brush on the stand.

The bag in most 'lux vacuums is the hatch seal, so operating it without a bag will produce a leak around the front bag hatch door. One other thing to check for is the hose condition. Take the hose off the front of the vacuum and start it up. If it has good suction at the vacuum port, then the hose is leaky or clogged. Note the sound of the motor with the hose off and on. If it's running much slower with the hose off, then you have a clog...no diff means you have a leaky hose. Model 30's are known to be rather quiet machines. They work by moving large air volumes, versus high air velocities, like new vac's.

A problem I am having with one of my mid 60's light blue vintage e'lux's is that the inside of the hose is falling apart. Flakes of dry-rotted rubber are coming off and clogging the hose up. The rubber fragments flop around in the wind of the suction and trap the dirt going up the hose, resulting in a clog. I'm afraid I am going to need to replace my hose with a modern equivalent

Electrolux sold the white dusting brush and also a white floor brush as options. They were to be used for delicate lampshades and curtains. The white floor brush was for dusting your walls. Terry

White dusting and floor brushes

The original white dusting and floor brushes came with the electrolux aluminum housings and white bumpers. The later ones were plastic like the one shown above. It's a beauty. I also have a grey plastic housing with the white dusting brush. And, indeed, you can get bojack retro-fit bags for the XXX. I use them in mine!

Westy it doesn't just look super dusty...

it IS super dusty. I have never done anything with it. That is how I got it, and it just say in closets for years, then in the trunk of the Imperial. (I think that is where some of the accessories are).

One of these days I will have to totally go through it.

I appreciate the trouble shooting tips for it. Any good leads on getting that bag?

bags

Probably a vacuum cleaner shop would have both the cloth bag and the retrofit paper bags. I'm amazed how many vacuum cleaner shops are around my neighborhood. Which is good since they're the only places that have the Type N bags for my Hoover Porta-Power and the bags for my Kirby G4. They usually repair lamps, too

Major update

Ok, went out to my Imperial, which in my tiny garage, it takes quite alot of work to get to the trunk in back. You would have to see it to believe it.

First off, a check of the unit in its new home, the laundry room closet, showed me that I had all the accessories there, except for the big floor attachment and the moth? filter thing whateveritis. I was also missing the original duster "ball" we were just talking about.

I found the floor attachment and the mothball thing, but then decided to go back and dig a little deeper. I found the duster, then unbelievably, the bag! I must have had it all along, the unit opened up in the trunk at some point, and it fell out. Now it sounds kind of familiar, but I really didn't remember it.

Now this is interesting. Take a look at what is written on the bag. Did they all come this way, or do I have some bizarro salesdemo unit all the way down the line?

Help me out folks, what is with this inscription???!!!

Kevin, very nice vac and love the display holder. Ok I'll chastise you seeing as no one else will.. what the H are you hiding it in the closet and car trunk for.. it's supposed to be out on display!.
Did you see the vac pic I posted a bit ago, that was a vac I know you could fix in the bat of an eye. Great match for the SH washer when you find one. It's about 3ft tall and fully functional, well the beater bar doesn't turn but it lights up and sucks.

Re: Bojack

Kevin,
"Bojack" is a term used in the vacuum business that refers to a replacement part that is not "genuine." When you get bags for almost any vacuum, you can get bojack, meaning it was manufactured to fit the vacuum but not made by the original manufacturer, or you can get genuine.

Not only are there bojack bags, but almost all parts are available as bojack for most vacuums. Parts for new vacuums are usually genuine as not enough time has passed to make the bojacks yet and some vacuums, like the Dyson are still unique AND new that only Dyson parts are available. Plus, the manufacturers may still have patents/copywrites, etc. on the vacuum so bojacks may not be available for a long time.

I hope this answers your question and makes sense.

Ok......

Because I am a moron! :-)

My 11 year old son said the same thing, why are we not displaying this thing.

You're all right. For now, I will keep it in the closet. 2 year old Tristan is way into things and the pieces will all disappear. I had it on display in the dining room, where the picture was took, in the old house for a while, but I kept bumping into it. The Imperial trunk sounds bad, but I figured it was out of the way there.

Eventually, it might look good tucked down a hall against the wall somewhere on display, have not thought much about it or where it would look good. Obviously, this would have to be after a nice cleaning.

No one YET has had anything to say about the bag with the writing on it.

THOUGHTS??!!!!

Electrolux bag

I'm guessing it is some kind of promotional thing since it could have been part of a salesman's kit. The genuine Lux cloth bags I seen, to the best of my memory, never had any writing on them other than Electrolux and the company's corporate address.

Maybe the Lux 30 owners out there could pull out there bags and take a look. I know Fred N. has one in his basement. Check it out Fred and please let us know!

On top of that...

The bag is slightly dirty, but not dirty like you think it would be. IN other words, it does not look like it was used tons, for years and years.

I might--get this--VACUUM out the inside of the bag and see how it cleans up :-)

It looks like some dust on the surface inside, almost as if some vacuuming would produce an inside about the same as the outside of the bag, with no further cleaning to reach that state.

It was almost as if this woman got the sales demo unit and either never used it or used it very slightly.

The original wall brush (round one, not sure if that is the wall brush) is actually highly worn out and slightly broken away in the middle...makes me think that is why she got the white replacement one. Was she planning on using this when she inherited it but scrapped the idea? Why is the round one so worn when the other parts are not.

Mysterious and fun indeed.

Kevin, that's nothing your old Ouija board couldn't answer for you..give it a try. LOL

Mysterious and Worn

Keep in mind that maybe she lost the original round brush and this may be a replacement and maybe she didn't even know someone else replaced it!

If you want to make that 30 smell better on the exhaust end, take it outside, remove the bag and front cover plate and let it run about 15-30 minutes outside. That helps blow out the crud from the increased air flow. You can also hand wash the bag in really well diluted Woolite and let it air dry. That will have you smelling good on the exhaust end!

Yes, you have to wash those cloth bags, they're full of stink. I did my Kirby bags in the bathtub, still with the sani emptor attached, a little bit of ABC and a Snuggle Rinse.. just like new with a fresh scent too.
